So now is Canidae the BEST food to give. I am on the down side of changing from Science Diet to Canidae. I was told that Science Diet, and I have read, was not a very good food at all. My vet told me to use it. I am not sure what to use now.

Canidae is being made at a new plant is all. And due to the high cost of Uncle bens rice, they are adding some new items that are good and healthy for you dog. Let me know if you want an intire list.

It is true some dogs may be sensitive to the change in the Canidae ingredients. The company does suggest transitioning the dog by mixing the old formula and new formula if your dog is one with a sensitive tummy.

I don't see anything in the new formula that is bad. I can understand their need to change. Rice is a high price commodity right now, especially overseas. So the companies that purchased their rice there are now coming back to the US and are offering lots of money to rice suppliers here. This is pushing out the little guy that runs a smaller company.

Questions for Debbie....What grain is Canidae using instead of rice? Is it still wheat-free? One of Canidae's cliams are that all ingredients are produced in this country. Is that true with the new formula?

I love Canidae and will probably continue to use it.

In addition to brown rice, they have diversified the complex carbohydrates in the formulas to include cracked pearl barley, rice bran, peas and millet for added flavor, nutritional value and easier digestion.
No Wheat and its all produced in this country.
The distributer I get it from would stop carring it otherwise.

Millet: A small seed from grass that is like a grain and in some countries used in place of rice.

Millet and Barley are very good for your dogs digestiive system. I look forward to seeing if the added Barley will help my dogs stop eating grass. I add barley to their food when I can find it for this purpose.

I'm using the lamb & rice and it definately has changed. My dogs have become gassy and have loose stools, not runny but loose. I'm going to keep using it for a while but if things don't change I'll have to go to another brand.
The senior platinum is just fine.

Well, I'm glad I hung in there with the canidae, the gas has gone away and the stools are firming up so I'll stay with it. Guess it just takes a little while until their systems adjust to the new stuff.

Grant and Lite couldn't handle the new formulation of Canidae.

Canidae problems were, gas, and very loose stools.

We complained to Canidae, and were told to add cottage cheese to the food, and that didn't help either.

We switched to Nutro lamb and rice mix, , ,but further checks into Nutro on the Consumer Affairs website and warnings, , ,I found a very startling discovery.

I am not sure which way to go now, anyone else having these problems with Canidae or Nutro?

ProPlan Lamb and rice made their hair brittle and break.

I would rather pay extra money for the food, rather than make my greys sick.

I asked the lady last week about my concerns with the change of these new ingredients and asked if they'd had any problems with these changes. She assured me that with NEW Canidae dog food users there have NOT been any issue. The problem was with people already using it and was not aware of the change and did not transition their dogs over to the new blend.

I'm transitioning Bee Bee over now.

Nice posts about the Canidae dog food. I had been using Canidae for years, however this *New* formulation caused problems for my greys.

I did do the transitioning of the food, and the loose stool, and gas problems got worse when both greys were fully on it.

Am I irritated at Canidae for changing the formulation? YOU BET!

Why try to fix something when it wasn't broken!

Anyone have any other idea's?

I always liked Canidae until they changed the formula. My hounds got gassy with loose stools after the change. It wasn't as bad during the transition but after they were fully on the new food things got worse.
I have changed My dogs to Natures Recipe and have seen a big improvment. You can only buy this food at pet stores, You won't find it at Wal-Mart. There's no wheat, corn, or junk in it, and it's priced about the same as Canidae. Hope this helps some.

One change that Canidae made was to increase the lamb in the All Life Stages regular food. Lamb is richer than chicken and can cause some dogs an issue. If you were feeding the All Life Stages you might look at trying the Chicken & Rice formula as it does not have lamb.
