So now is Canidae the BEST food to give. I am on the down side of changing from Science Diet to Canidae. I was told that Science Diet, and I have read, was not a very good food at all. My vet told me to use it. I am not sure what to use now. _________________ Dad to Babe at the Bridge, Bridgett, and Gracie |

Dont listen to hear say. Go directly to the Canidae website.
Canidae is being made at a new plant is all. And due to the high cost of Uncle bens rice, they are adding some new items that are good and healthy for you dog. Let me know if you want an intire list.

Questions for Debbie....What grain is Canidae using instead of rice? Is it still wheat-free? One of Canidae's cliams are that all ingredients are produced in this country. Is that true with the new formula?
I love Canidae and will probably continue to use it.
Best Wishes!

In addition to brown rice, they have diversified the complex carbohydrates in the formulas to include cracked pearl barley, rice bran, peas and millet for added flavor, nutritional value and easier digestion.
No Wheat and its all produced in this country.
The distributer I get it from would stop carring it otherwise.
Millet: A small seed from grass that is like a grain and in some countries used in place of rice.
Millet and Barley are very good for your dogs digestiive system. I look forward to seeing if the added Barley will help my dogs stop eating grass. I add barley to their food when I can find it for this purpose.
Hope that helps.

I'm using the lamb & rice and it definately has changed. My dogs have become gassy and have loose stools, not runny but loose. I'm going to keep using it for a while but if things don't change I'll have to go to another brand.
The senior platinum is just fine.

Well, I'm glad I hung in there with the canidae, the gas has gone away and the stools are firming up so I'll stay with it. Guess it just takes a little while until their systems adjust to the new stuff.

Grant and Lite couldn't handle the new formulation of Canidae.
Canidae problems were, gas, and very loose stools.
We complained to Canidae, and were told to add cottage cheese to the food, and that didn't help either.
We switched to Nutro lamb and rice mix, , ,but further checks into Nutro on the Consumer Affairs website and warnings, , ,I found a very startling discovery.

I am not sure which way to go now, anyone else having these problems with Canidae or Nutro?
ProPlan Lamb and rice made their hair brittle and break.
I would rather pay extra money for the food, rather than make my greys sick. |

Copy from the Canidae.com website
What we improved in our holistic formulations.
Meat has always been the first ingredient in all of our products, and now we have added more meat! By diversifying a small portion of our carbohydrate structure we were able to actually lower all carbohydrates, and increase our overall meat content. You will find the main source of real meat protein listed on the label of every bag of CANIDAE All Natural Dog Food and FELIDAE All Natural Cat Food. From the addition of fresh lamb meat to our Canine Lamb and Rice formula, to the increased lamb meal in our All Life Stages formulas, our new formulations continue to reflect the most recent advances in pet nutrition. In addition to brown rice, we have diversified the complex carbohydrates in the formulas to include cracked pearl barley, rice bran, peas and millet for added flavor, nutritional value and easier digestion. These improvements to our CANIDAE All Natural Dog Food and FELIDAE All Natural Cat Food dry formulas have only been made after extensive formulation, nutrient and palatability testing.
Overview of enhancements to all formulas.
Lowered Carbohydrates while Increasing the Overall Carbohydrate Quality, therefore increasing Meat Contents. (see below)
Lowered Total Fiber and Increased the Overall Fiber Quality
Enhanced the Vitamin E Levels in all Formulas
Incorporated Beta Carotene
Incorporated Cranberries for Better Urinary Tract Heath
Increased Palatability
Increased Digestibility
Decreased Stool Volume
Now with diversified carbohydrates.
Brown Rice: One of the most digestible carbohydrate ingredients. Carbohydrates provide energy for all of the body’s vital functions. Excellent carbohydrate source for pets with sensitive digestive systems. Provides niacin, an important B vitamin, to the diet.
Cracked Pearl Barley: A complex carbohydrate and a good source of dietary fiber as well as protein. Also provides B vitamins and natural antioxidants. Antioxidants protect the health of the cells and are important for maintaining excellent overall health. Promotes a healthy digestive tract and reduces the risk of cancers. Lowers blood cholesterol levels and aids in disease resistance.
Rice Bran: The outer layer of the brown rice and is rich in fat and fiber. Contains many natural antioxidants including vitamin E. The fiber provided by rice bran contains a blend of soluble and in soluble fibers, helping to promote ideal stool quality and good digestive health.
Peas: Provide carbohydrates, fiber and protein. Highly digestible and full of vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant. Also provide B vitamins to the diet.
Millet: A protein rich grain, providing important amino acids such as Threonine and Lysine to the diet. A gluten free grain. Also rich in B vitamins. _________________ Debbie, mom to Reggie, Tim Tam, Chloe Isabeau, Jessie James and Jossie. (2 legged kids Cody and Kelly) Hubby Ron |

Nice posts about the Canidae dog food. I had been using Canidae for years, however this *New* formulation caused problems for my greys.
I did do the transitioning of the food, and the loose stool, and gas problems got worse when both greys were fully on it.
Am I irritated at Canidae for changing the formulation? YOU BET!
Why try to fix something when it wasn't broken!
Anyone have any other idea's? |

I always liked Canidae until they changed the formula. My hounds got gassy with loose stools after the change. It wasn't as bad during the transition but after they were fully on the new food things got worse.
I have changed My dogs to Natures Recipe and have seen a big improvment. You can only buy this food at pet stores, You won't find it at Wal-Mart. There's no wheat, corn, or junk in it, and it's priced about the same as Canidae. Hope this helps some.

Thank You Gary.
From the posted graphs, one can see what Canidae was doing, a major change of the Brown Rice, supplimented volume with Barley, Rice Bran, Peas, and a Bird seed treat called Millet. My wife and I used to give our Cockateils *Millet* as a treat, had to watch on the amount given because of the fats.
Anyway, Thanks again Gary, I'll be headed to PetSmart tomorrow, if not there, Pets Supplies Plus.
