I read that I am supposed to feed him about 2 tsp of yogurt everyday but do I mix in the food and add water too?
What does everybody else do?
Sorry for such a dumb question!!!! |

You really dont have to give them Yogurt each day but, a good way to do it is with frosty paws. I make them in the small size ice cube trays. About 1inch squares. They get one after everyone has eaten and settled down. But, they dont get them all the time. It just depends on if I have them made.
If you want to give it every day and dont want to make frosty paws, you can just put it on top of the food. Like a garnish !
Dont use flavored yogurt and watch the dogs weight. _________________ Debbie, mom to Reggie, Tim Tam, Chloe Isabeau, Jessie James and Jossie. (2 legged kids Cody and Kelly) Hubby Ron |

My hounds get nonfat plain yogurt at every feeding. I soak their food in hot water for a few minutes then pour off the water and mix in about two tbl. spoons of yogurt. They also get 1000mg fish oil capsules at every feeding. This helps their coat and nails. Be sure to feed Your hound a good quality dog food such as Canidae which You can get from Debbie Rater. Don't use any of that Wal- Mart Ol'Roy cheap crap.

You go, Gary! That Ol' Roy is garbage-in-a-bag in my mind!
I don't soak my dogs' kibble. I just measure out each one's portion, add a "plop, a dollop," whatever of yogurt, maybe some veggies and mix it all together with fish oil capsules in proportion to each one's weight. The yogurt does seem to help with the bluegreen haze that can fill our family room some days. _________________ Carol, huMom to greyhounds Lee, Sally and Bizzy, whippets Dodge, Mandy and Spice, and Itty Bitty Kitty. yes that ol roy stuff is crap. i used to use it till i learned more about it. its like everything else, theres a reason why its cheaper. frosty paws is one greyt way to get them yougurt. its good for them and they have no idea they think they are getting a treat and love them. _________________ Karl,

I always put a dap of yogurt and a fish oil cap in their food. I think it helps witht he gas. My hounds don't have much gas. Of course, it's not necessary but anything that will help with gas is a good thing. I also add hot water. _________________ Linda

i have been watering down his Nutro dog food and putting a spoonful of yogurt on top and his gas seems to have went away.... he is a different dog today! (or at least he smells like a different dog!)
what about water? do you use cold, warm, or room temperature water for his water bowl? |

My hounds get room temp water in an elevated bowl. They also get fed in an elevated bowl. And anything else I can do to spoil the crap out of them !!!

Tara and Will split one container of yogurt as part of the kibble or as a tasty snack during the day. I do use Bryer's mixed-berry yogurt and they seem to like it ok.
If giving with the meal, I just spoon in on top and let them slosh it all around. I've also been using olive oil for the coats and dry skin. _________________ Tara Sue was here
