Hi all... I am Traci and I got my first grey today! His name is Odie and he will be 5 in March. He is a little shy right now but I think he will be just fine. He is such a sweet boy.
Does anybody have any suggestions on this issue? Odie has no dog smell on him (he actually smells like nothing) but he has been in the house for only 6 hours and our house has already started to smell like dog... what is the smell coming from and how can I eliminate it? I know this sounds like a totally dumb question but I don't understand why my house smells but he doesn't.
Thanks!
Traci |

If he doesn't seem to have a smell, check his beding.
It could be what you are smelling. IF I start to smell a doggy smell, I just wash everything. _________________ Debbie, mom to Reggie, Tim Tam, Chloe Isabeau, Jessie James and Jossie. (2 legged kids Cody and Kelly) Hubby Ron |

that is true.... we just built a house and our grass outside is not completely grown in yet. when he has been going out, he tracks some mud/dirt in and it is in his bedding. i will wash it and see what happens. how often do you bathe your dog? |

Maybe you just have a super nose. I am glad I don't. _________________ Linda

another thought on that may be that just the fact there is something new in the house and you are more aware of it than you realize. if he's only been there that short of time. kinda like a new person that comes in and stays for a while, sometimes you dont realize or notice if they have a certain perfume or colonge on while there are sittng there with you but after they leave or if you go outside and come back in there is just a different scent in the air, not meaning its bad but just that someone different has been there.just a thought. i just know if there is something different or if someone has been in my house i can almost always pick up on it as soon as i walk throught the door. some people are just more sensitive to changes. kinda like our greyt friends are. _________________ Karl,

that is probably it but i would rather my house didn't smell like it... of course, any dog smell is better than the gas he has filled the room up with in the past few hours! whoa!!! i need a gas mask!!! |

Hey Traci
I know the mud probably isn't the smell, but a lot of us keep an old towel by the door to wipe their feet when they come in. They will usually just stand and let you lift each foot to wipe to get the mud off. _________________ Blanche E Fedor

that's funny that you say that about the towel because that is what i have been doing! of course, i can't get all the dirt/mud off but it does help.
i went to walmart today and got an air purifier and it seems to be working. it also helps with the gas (haha)... |

He is really beautiful. The gas is caused by adjustment of food and stress of new home. It will calm down but may take a while. It took 4 months for Flame to stop with the gas. I would keep air freshener by the bed to spray the air when he would wake us up during the night. Also, I find that pig ears will give my hounds gas so we don't do them. My hounds just don't have much gas. An air cleaners does help. Oreck makes a good one that also kill germs and disinfects the air and room. _________________ Linda
