In the Montgomery household September has been the month of the vet. With Gerty, Smokey and Toby all making visits.

Smokey started losing weight and developed diarehea. Took him to the vet and he had lost 10 lbs in about 2-3 weeks. They kept him overnight to give him fluids and antiobiotics. His fecal sample showed lots of inflammed cells. They think it is IBD-Inflammed Bowel Disorder. So for now he is on meds and special food. He is slowly gaining back the 10 lbs he lost. They think the prednisone he was on caused his IBD to flare up.

While Smokey was at the vet, Toby developed the Big 'D' so we took his sample to the vet. His didn't show anything at all so his was a simple upset tummy that a little fast and then bland food took care of.

Then Toby developed a small bump on his right front leg down by the 'ankle' area. We thought he had hit it coming up the steps and just kept an eye on it. In about two weeks it has doubled in size and is really red. He doesn't seem to have any pain from it and he doesn't lick it and it is not affecting his walking. So off to the vet. Because of the area where it is located and how quickly it is growing they are going to remove it and not do a biopsy. If we wait on a biopsy it may be too large to completely remove. This way we will have enough skin left to stitch him up. And while he is under he will get his dental. He goes on Wed morning so keep paws crossed for the Tobe-miester.

Now as long as Jasmine and Maggie-Mae can stay healthy through September it will be wonderful.

Oh, Lynda --so sorry to hear about all the trips to the vet--with 4 pets, I've had months like that Rolling Eyes ---I have to say pet insurance has been a godsend for the Bulletdog--I highly recommend it!! Thumbs up

Hope everyone is feeling better and sending prayers that all is ok with Toby especially!

Here is a picture of Toby after his vet visit. He was quite miserable that night. He doesn't make a very good patient. Toby wanted me to thank everyone for keeping their paws crossed. He goes back to the vet Monday for them to take a look and see if the skin has stretched enough to staple it shut. The vet said his mass was attached vascularly so that was why it was growing so fast. We hope to have the pathology report middle of the week.

Good news!!!!

Toby went to the vet today in hopes they could stitch him up but the skin needs to stretch just a littel more. So he has another pretty bandage, this one is yellow. He goes back on Friday and hopefully then he gets staples to close him up.

The pathology report came back and shows Canine Cutaneous Histiocytoma. Which is a common benign cutaneous neoplasm. Key word benign. These are not uncommon in a dog 3 yrs and younger, less common in one 9 years of age. They do not normally reoccur. We were told to keep an eye out and if we see another one to have it removed and sent in because multiple tumors is unusual and should warrant concern for lymphoma.

Hooray Toby!!!!
