Hello All. My Dolly and Sam are signed up for non-anesthetic dental cleanings the second weekend in September (Sept 8-9) at Pawtique in Ballantyne. 704-544-7551. If you are interested see this video: Only registered users can see links on this forum! Register or Login on forum! | Kathy (the lady on the video) is the one who is coming to Charlotte to do the cleanings. I am 100% ANAL about my dogs. HA! No one touches them unless I am sure they know what they are doing. I talked to Kathy by email and on the phone before I decided to let her clean my dogs’ teeth. I also talked to my vet. My vet thinks non-anesthetic dental cleaning is a great option for general cleaning. It’s not appropriate for dogs that need extractions or complicated procedures. Kathy does not do doggie dental surgery, she refers problems to a vet.
The procedure takes about 20 minutes. You are in the room with your dog. Our dogs are not restrained and they don’t get any drugs. The cost is about $120-$150. I am very excited about trying this. I hope it works. Dolly almost died from pre-op medication for a vet dental cleaning this spring. She had the same medication 4 times before, but something went wrong this time. My vet won’t anesthetize Dolly again unless it is a life-threatening emergency.
If anyone is interested contact Pawtique at the phone number above.
Best Wishes!

Hello Again. Kathy from Houndstooth (http://www.hounds2th.cjb.net/) is coming to my home the morning of September 7 to clean Dolly and Sam's teeth. If you are interested in the procedure and want to see it done before making a decision, you are welcome to come to my house and watch my dogs being guinea pigs. If you like the procedure Kathy should have time to do a few more dogs at my house (greys only please) or you can schedule a cleaning at Pawtique for Saturday or Sunday.
This will be REAL interesting. I have zero experience with non-anesthetic dental cleaning. I don't know Kathy other than talking to her on the phone several times. She seems to know what she is doing but I won't be sure until I see her at work. Sam's teeth are just mildly dirty but Dolly's teeth are a real mess. Severe gingivitis, etc. Kathy thinks she can help Dolly. I hope so because Dolly cannot have anesthesia unless it is a life-threatening emergency.
If you want to come here on September 7 please let me know. My email is Only registered users can see links on this forum! Register or Login on forum! | , my phone number is 803-831-9766.
Thanks,
Karen |

Hey! If anyone is on the fence about having non-anesthetic dental cleaning this weekend I STRONGLY encourage you to do it. Kathy came to my house this morning and cleaned three of my greys' teeth. It was a wonderful experience.
Dolly's teeth were black and stinky with inflammed, bleeding gums. Kathy sat on the floor with Dolly's head in her lap. She hugged Dolly until she stopped trying to get up, then went to work. Cathy scales the big chunks off and then uses a sonic water thingy to remove what's left and the stains. Amazingly Dolly put up with it. She mostly just laid there. Never showed any indication of pain or real fear. Dolly took a darned long time, maybe 45 minutes. She lost one tiny front teeth in the process. It was literally anchored by tarter and practically fell out. Dolly never flinched.
Sam's teeth were just average dirty with no gum issues. Cathy cleaned his teeth in about 15 minutes. Again, Sam showed no sign of distress.
I was not going to get ProMan's teeth done because he's so old and fragile. Even a bath is traumatic for Pro. Kathy scaled his teeth while he was lying on the sofa. At first Pro screamed and protested, but he does that when I clip his nails. HA! Pro is a big baby. After a few minutes he figrured out that acting up was not going to work, so he laid back and submitted. Kathy got his teeth clean in about 10 minutes. We bypassed the sonic thing for Pro.
I can't see any difference in my dogs' teeth between this type of cleaning and a cleaning at the vet under general anesthesia. Cost is $120-$150. No pre-anesthesia bloodwork, no medications, no IVs. I got all three dogs done for less that I would have paid for one dog at the vet. More importantly, there was no danger of drug or anesthesia reactions. I'm sold.
Best Wishes!

That's fabulous, Karen! Thanks for posting about your experience. I know you're so relieved to have your seniors done without risk and stress.
Does anybody know if she is doing walk-ins at Pawtique or just appointments? _________________ Cynthia, huMom to Carly (Cw Your Charming), Princess (Lofty Princess), & Cruz, the galgo

I saw Dolly and Pro's teeth after cleaning and they were pearly white I was very impressed! I hope she adds Charlotte to her route. _________________ Leah mom to Romeo, Abbey, Sweetie, Maggie the collie and Luke at the bridge. Waiting on Tippy and Cindy Lou. |
