I know I have seen other greys with red toes (looks like a skin rash) and backs of their feet but the condition has never showed up with Bo.

Last month when we took Corky in for his checkup, we asked the vet to look at his feet and see what we needed to do to clear up it up. The initial diagnosis was a possible allergy to either food or something environmental. Since we had introduced Kongs treats with peanut butter which was the only new "food", we stopped that immediately. Environmentally, I can't think of a thing we have done different as we go out in the yard and walk on the streets and sidewalks. Have you heard of greys developing grass allergies and if so how in the would do you avoid grass?

Here's what he's received "so far".

Two separate prescriptions of Clavamox (1.5 tabs 2 times a day)
A3/N Supplement - One a day - Omega 3 &6 fatty acids & antioxidants
Chlorhexidine Flush - 1:10 ratio (swab or soak feet once a day)
Relifor Topical Spray - Spray feet twice a day
Remicin Ointment -Apply to "spots" twice a day till gone (know that's generally for ears but the vet thought it might help heal the skin irritation).

So far there's not much improvement and he's really none to happy for anyone to mess with his feet. The strange is despite the redness, it really doesn't seem to be bothering Corky at all. The only time that he licks his feet is immediately following the application of any medicine (I guess to insure it gets cleaned off).

When I took Corky back in for a follow up on Wed. I told the vet that since he didn't seem to be in pain or bothered by this, I wanted to post on line and see if anyone had other suggestions. Chasing a skin rash without a real diagnosis can get sorta expensive.

If anyone has any suggestions or can point me in the direction of some reference material on whatever this might be called, I'm wide open.

Toby has red feet too. They get really red sometimes and others they are normal, but a bit dry. He doesn't really bother them except for an occasional licking. Our vet also said maybe food or environmental. Food is usually chicken or corn. We switched him to lamb & Rice Canidae and haven't noticed a change in the feet but he seems less flakey. His feet seem to flare up in early spring and this time of year. So probably it is an evirnomental allergy.

We have tried different meds and also herbals to no avail. Have been rubbing his feet with Emu Oil and he seems to like the attention. Hasn't helped the redness though. I have been reading about coconut oil and also lemon balm. Will try those next.

With the exception of the redness he isn't bothered by them. No chewing or scratching going on. He does lick his chest but I think that is more of a soothing thing much like a baby with a pacifer.

I will let you know if I find something that works.

ProMan started getting red feet about 8 years ago, for no apparant reason. His problem is seasonal, starting in early summer and clearing up by November. We have tried everything on your lists plus more. Nothing works for Pro. We also did allergy testing and debated about putting him on allergy injections. Pro is allergic to grass, cottonwood trees and dust mites. Who isn't? LOL! Decided against injections because the problem does not seem to bother him. He doesn't lick his feet unless I put medication on them. Some years it is REALLY bad with bright red, bald, crusty feet all summer. Others years there is just a little redness. The best treatment for Pro is to just leave his feet alone and wait for it to go away in the fall.

Think we are going to see what progress we can make with the non-med solutions and see if we see any improvement. Thanks for the the responses and insight.

Just thought I'd post a tootsie update on Corky. While his toes have gone from from pink to red in a matter of minutes this fall, they seem to have improved over the last two weeks. Karen has said ProMan got better around November so maybe we are almost done for the year. Looking forward to getting some fur back on his feet but it sure hasn't slower down "speed racer"

I don't know if it has helped but we have Corky on the same regime as Bo to treat SLO so both are now getting Omega 3s, vitamin E, Flax seed oil and Bo gets Niacinamide as well. Their coats have improved for sure.
