I was wondering if anyone has done agility training with their hound, and if there's anywhere in the Charlotte area you know of that offers it. I thought it would be fun to try it out.

The Piedmont Kennel Club offers Agility Training. They are located off Choate Circle. This road runs between Hwy 49 and Carowinds Blvd. If you get off Carowinds Blvd and go toward Carowinds Choate Circle is at the red light across from the roller coaster.

And GFNC will be at PKC on Sept 16th, Sunday 1-4pm. They are doing a Meet The Breed event. There will be agility, training, tricks and other demonstrations. Bring Trooper and the boys and come visit.

I will be posting the list of our events for Sept sometime today. I do need a volunteer to assist with the PKC event if anyone is available.

Debbie Knowles does agility training. We don't have a greyhound yet but have taken our other dog. It was a blast. She is on Rocky River Road near Harrisburg. The website is

Thanks Karen!! I will have either Jasmine or Toby with me. We usually have an AKC greyhound come by the booth. It is neat to see the AKC and racing grey side by side.

Agility is fun!!
My firend Julie's greyhound Keena can run a full course off leash, she is almost ready for competition.
My Diesel took a beginner agility class and can run a course off leash (in a fenced area) except the teeter totter. And he still needs help with the weave poles. Diesel loves agility, he gets so excited. He really likes the tunnels and jumps.
For practice at home you can make a tunnel out of hoola hoop rings and a bed sheet. You can easily build jumps and weave poles with PVC pipes.
Just don't get discouraged by the aussies and border colies in class, no sighthound will ever be able to compete with willing-to-please herding dogs, but that's ok, it's only for fun!

PKC holds agility trials twice a year and GFNC was called upon as volunteers. It was really amazing to watch those dogs run the course. And you are right seeing those border collies come out of the tunnel almost on their side they were running so fast. I think the hardest one of all is where they jump up on a box and have to stay. They want to GO and they have to stay. SO HARD!!!!

They even had little fluffy dogs competing. They were cute to watch.

I took our terrier, Travi, to agility classes. But although he could do most of the stuff, he couldn't be counted on to return when called, and he always pooped or peed on the course, which is a BIG no-no! I don't know how Trooper would get through a tunnel--he's so tall! But I just love to watch it. At the huge dog show in Boston every December, my mother and I would pull up chairs and sit for hours watching the agility trials. Sometimes Trooper seems so bored--at night he'll ask to go out and I'll see him zipping around the yard in a big circle and come in all panting and happy, so I thought, maybe agility...for some reason (cross your fingers and knock on wood) his toes seem to be better...I don't know why but Dave and I have both noticed it. Or maybe he's just used to the pain, poor thing.

They are a great group of people. My daughter and I attended a Puppy Kindergarten class with the Border Collie/mix(up) that we have - our trainer was Lorna. She is really good. She offers all kinds of training for your dog.
