We just got our dog about 3 weeks ago and couldn't be happier. We took him to the Glenwood dog park today and a girl told me that there were a couple other greyhounds that came there. Are there any groups that get together at certain times at the dog park , or anywhere around Raleigh? |

Hi! Welcome and congratulations!!
We had a playgroup on Sunday mornings in Apex at a ball field, but they locked the gates and now we have nowhere to go...
The Durham dog park gets together on Sunday mornings, but you have to buy a dog tag which is $20 per dog for the year.
Where is the Glenwood dog park?
Who did you adopt??? Do you have pictures?? _________________ Christina

We adopted "Charger". We renamed him Andretti. I'll download the pictures we have later today.
Oakwood Dog Park is in Raleigh, very close to peace college and, as you might have guessed, the Oakwood historic neighborhood. There is no fee to use the Raleigh dog parks (the other one is on Six Forks Rd. I think), and they seem to be well kept. I think it would be great to get some greyhounds together there once a week.

Our family adopted (Ester) from GFNC back in December and would love to get together with some other greys for a playdate! We live in Clayton so Durham is a liitle far, but the Oakwood park would be great.

Their website looks good, and they even have pictures with a couple greyhounds! It's in the 'hood' where I lived and survived for 5 years before I moved.
I can't bring my adult greys, they don't enjoy playing with other breeds (I know, greyhound snobs..) and some folks think it's ok to bring little white fluffy in the big dog area, not a good idea!
I took Diesel to the Milbrook park before and always had a near heart attack. Those big slobber labs are rough and poor Diesel got all scared. The more he squealed like a little piggie the more they tried to attack him! He jumped in some big guy's arms and shook like a leaf!
I took my afghan there once, oh man, she was ready to jump the 6 foot fence to get the hell outta there!
Anyways, I can give it another try, we have to find a good time without a lot of people there. _________________ Christina

I've heard the Millbrook dog park is a little bigger and out of control than this one. A bunch of people still don't know about it. It had about 6 dogs there around 3:00 in the afternoon on a weekday, which was nice. Around 5:00 it gets a little more crowded, I think I saw around 15 there.
I'd love to set up a time to let them run around out there.
The Raleigh city council just set aside part of a park behind Peace College that should be ready around this fall I think.
I'm sure the weekends are more crowded, but I think we should try. I work weekends, but my wife would be happy to take him. Just name a time and we'll be there.

Dog parks can be kinda rough. If You can, try to find an area that's enclosed (like a ball field) to use. I did that here in Kannapolis, the property is owned by the First Babtist Church. We obtained permission to use the area on sundays for two hours. Sight hounds only !!! Greys, like people, don't always play well with other breeds. If anyone here shows up with a Shepard, Lab, or ankle biter they can observe the fun from outside the fence. We get mostly Greys with a few Whippets. We've had as few as 4 dogs and as many as 25 but it's always fun for dogs and humans alike.

Well maybe not with the rain. Last time he went there he got a little muddy because it was hot and he found a puddle, but he needs a bath anyways. I will go if someone posts and says they will be going too. |

Since I was in the area anyway I went to the Oakwood park today to check it out, didn't have a dog with me because I had to drop off my foster at his new home. This park is very nice!! Huge wooded area covered with mulch. At 2pm there were a bunch of dogs playing, but a lady said that at 7am or close to sunset it is pretty empty. _________________ Christina

Yeah for Charger-oops Andretti-he really looks stressed-must be tired out from playing with his new toys. Give him an extra hug from me. _________________ Blanche E Fedor
