Our Ester started limping after playing outside the last couple of times. After watching her I could tell it was her right foot...specifically her second toe. Went to the vet and looking at the x-rays it appears that her joint in this toe is partially fused - though it is hard to say (according to the vet). He thinks this was the result of a previous injury.

Right now she is taking Prednisone to see if it helps with the swelling and inflammation, but the vet has already mentioned amputation if this doesn't help.

Can anyone offer feedback based on similar experience?

Mark

Sorry to hear about Ester's foot. Sad
I'd consider amputation as the absolute last resort.
Disolcated and injured toes happen quite often, it usually takes 8 weeks to get better.
I would wrap it with vet-wrap (not too tight) for support or have her wear a doggie boot and wait patiently. Most oft the time it will get better. Keep us updated!

My Reggie had this issue. He had an injury from racing and we had to amputate. All is well. You cant even tell he is missing it. Except when I clip his nails. I always feel like I am missing something !
