Hi Everyone,

I haven't been on in awhile, alot has changed since my last visit to this group. Michael and I have had some wonderful things happen in our lives such as the birth of our first Grandson (Morgan James Ebert). Morgan was born on March 19th, 2007 and Mike and I thought things couldn't get more wonderful. Morgan weighed in at 9 pounds, 4.3 ounces and was 21 inches long. Morgan was and is perfect and both Baby and Mommy (our Daughter, Lynn) are doing well.

But than on March 22nd, 2007 we had to put Our Beloved Audrey to sleep. The day after Morgan was born (Tuesday, 3/20) I was returning home from the hospital after visiting Morgan to find our sweet Audrey had gotten up from a pillow in the kitchen and started screaming. Our Son, Jeffrey carried Audrey to the couch thinking maybe her right rear leg had fallen asleep but when she wouldn't stop crying we took her to the emergency vet ASAP.

At first the emergency vet thought Audrey may have suffered a mild stroke and suggested we take her home and give her lots of TLC and hopefully in time she would improve. But on Wednesday, 3/21 when she had put in a awful night I called our regular vet and he gave Audrey some pain meds and told me to give it another day. Wednesday night went better - the pain meds worked but Michael or I had to carry Audrey out to the potty, she was unable to use her right rear leg. I finally went to work Thursday morning (3/22) but came home to find my daughter-in-law upset. Seemed Audrey's leg was swelling very badly - another trip to our vet. This time several X-rays were taken and they showed a broken Femur. Another trip back to the emergency vet where there was a Cancer Specialist there to look Audrey over.

After several more X-rays and blood work without actually doing a Bone Biopsy - the news was not good. The Cancer Specialist felt the broken Femur was a result of the Cancer that was widespread throughout Audrey's leg. He told us most animals that get hit by cars don't break the Femur in their leg since it is the strongest bone in the leg, it only breaks if the bone is diseased. He also said there were several stress fractures starting in her lower Spine and he felt the Cancer was spreading very quickly. He said he could do surgery to remove her right rear leg but he told us that would only buy Audrey a few weeks, maybe a few months. We were told she was in awful pain and he felt the most humane thing we could do is put her to sleep.

So Michael and I talked it over and make the heart breaking decison to let Our Sweet Audrey go. We gathered the entire family together, Michael, myself, our Son Jeffrey, our Daughter-in-law Sandra, our Daughter Lynn and my Mom and made the trip to the vet's to say Good-Bye. At 5 minutes to 7:00 on March 22nd, 2007 our Baby Audrey went to sleep. I kissed her on the head - told her I loved her and would miss her and cried all the way home.

Than yesterday (Monday, 4/2) I picked up Audrey's ashes so I could bring her home for good. I miss her with all my heart but I do know she is in a better place hopefully free of pain. Morgan's birth has been such a blessing - he is certainly easing our pain from losing our Audrey. They say time will heal our pain - I am sure it will. But one thing is for certian - our Audrey will always be in our hearts, she touched our lives like no other dog ever has. And Michael and I known she was put on this Earth to show us how wonderful it is to share our lives with our Furry Friends. We always called her "Our Little Miracle in that Black and White Fur Suit" - Michael and I were blessed to have her in our lives.

I Thank You for listening - I needed to share my feelings about our loss. I known all of you understand the pain Michael and I are feeling - you have to be true animal lovers to understand.

Michael and Noreen
My heart goes out to you. It's so sad to lose such a friend that we haven't had nearly long enough.
Audrey is running free from pain with all the other beloved animals that have gone before us to the Bridge.
Run Free Sweet Audrey.

We are sorry to read of Audrey's passing. Losing someone close, whether fun or skin, is hard. We hope you can gather together many good memories to comfort you now and help you smile and laugh as time passes.

Michael and Noreen we are so sorry to hear about Audrey. You will be in our thoughts. Hug your grandson and when he gets older show him pictures and tell him what a wonderful greyhound she was.

Hi Everyone,

Mike and I just wanted to "THANK" everyone from the bottoms of our hearts for your kind words of compassion. They mean alot to the both of us. Audrey's passing has been very hard on the entire family but we know she is in a better place free of pain. I want to believe with all my heart and soul that one day we will see our sweetheart Audrey once again. Just to kiss her soft head and tell her how much I love her means everything to me, Mike feels the same way. But for now her pictures and all the wonderful memories Mike and I have of her will have to get us through.

But never fail - we aren't going to stop sharing our love no matter what - Mike and I are all ready looking into adopting another "Special Needs Girl" like our Audrey. If all works out for us Topaz (a beautiful fawn girl) will be joining our family hopefully soon. I pray in some small way Audrey will be proud of us for helping another greyhound that so desperately needs special care and attention just as she did.

But for now time will tell what the future will hold - memories are dear and our other 2 beautiful greyhound ladies make the pain easier to handle. AGAIN THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR COMPASSION AND CARING WORDS!!!! May God Bless all of you!!!!

Hi Everyone,

Mike and I have adopted another "Special Needs" little girl that needed a loving and patience home so she can blossom into the super pet we know she can be. Since our precious Audrey crossed over "The Rainbow Bridge" Mike and I have felt so lost. Audrey was always a challenge (a work in progress) right from day one but in the end she was worth every single minute of time we put into her - Audrey turned out to become an awesome pet as well as a very special member of our family.

Whether it was Audrey who sent us to Topaz or just fate - it doesn't matter because once we saw Topaz's picture and talked to the Greyhound Rescue Group that had her Mike and I were hooked. We knew we had to adopt Topaz and give her a wonderful and loving home just like we did with our sweet Audrey. In some small way Audrey can live on through Topaz. Mike and I both know Topaz will never replace our precious Audrey but we feel she can fill the hugh void Audrey left when she passed on. And maybe Audrey is looking down on us and saying "Good Job Mom and Dad" - feeling extreme pride for us since we adopted Topaz.

- click on the section "Available for Adoption" - scroll down almost to the bottom of the page to the little fawn girl Topaz "Special Needs" - you can check Topaz out for yourselves. You will have to admit that sweet face was hard to ignore. So on Sunday, April 22nd (1 month after our Audrey passed on) we drove 6 hours from our home to Poughkeepsie, NY to pick our new little "Scary Fairy" Topaz up. Life is always a challenge but in the end Topaz's achievements will be worth it all. All Mike and I want is for Topaz to feel happy and at home here with us. Once she learns life is pretty good here we are hoping she will love us back as much as we will love her (as we all ready love her). Trust isn't going to come easy for Topaz, neither will alot of things but Mike and I have the time and patience to give Topaz so she can become a great pet and family member just like Audrey was.

I guess my friends were right - they all said we would know when the time was right to adopt again. Guess the time was right - now Topaz is a part of the Marshall Family. Hope no one minded me bragging about our new little "Fur Baby" but these sweet creatures called greyhounds are so hard not to brag about.

As I get some pictures of Topaz I will email them on to you so you can see our little "Scary Fairy" for yourselves. Take care and hug those wonderful hounds of yours, give them all a hug from us too!!!!

Looking at our signature on the bottom of our emails I guess I will have to go into our profile and update so Topaz's name can be added too - after all she is part of the family now. Boy, saying that is awesome - Topaz is a member of our family - I LOVE THE SOUND OF THAT!!!!
