Today is a special day. This time last year Maggie's Mom (Thank You, Thank You) and I made the long drive from NC to Michigan to get my second Spanish galgo, Cruz.
But the story actually begins in Spain in 2005 when an emaciated galgo was rescued off the streets of Badajoz, by an SOS Galgos angel/volunteer. This little guy was later chosen as one of three to travel back to the US with a Michigan veterinarian returning home after his annual trip to Spain to provide medical care for the galgos.
When I adopted him, his call name was Snifi. I thought that was odd and when I emailed his foster mom about his name she said, "We call him Snifi because he all time cry and cry for everything". Yep, she got that right! She and her SO were the angels who rescued him after they found him scrounging for garbage in an alleyway. Cruz and I will be forever grateful.
Although he doesn't really have anything to cry about anymore, like most galgos he is very vocal. Moreso than the average greyhound, that's for sure. He barks, whines, moans, & howls to express himself. His combination moan/howl (not a roo) thing has to be heard to be believed! I can't even describe it but other galgo folks will know exactly what I mean!
The galgo formerly known as Snifi is now Cruz (or Santa Cruz, Cruzer, Escruzito, Galgito, and sometimes even Boody Rooper) & is super sweet and so very grateful to have a home. He's also one of the biggest mama's boys ever -- but that's another story. His coat is a combination of smooth hair on his sides and backside with longer wirey hair over his back. When I first picked him up, he had this thick patch of long hair right over his wither area and I swear, he looked like someone had stuck a cheap white toupee on his back!!!! :lol Now the longer hair starts in the middle of his neck and extends down his back fairly evenly. If I'd known it wasn't permanent, I would have taken lots of pictures of his toupee.
His guardian angel took this one shortly after his rescue.
He's come a long way -- in more ways than one!
Love my spotty boy!
Happy 1st Gotcha Day, sweet Cruzito. I'm looking forward to many, many more! _________________ Cynthia, huMom to Carly (Cw Your Charming), Princess (Lofty Princess), & Cruz, the galgo

Thank you. That's especially true now. If he were a horse, he would have a natural hair saddle blanket! And if he were a horse, I'd guess he'd be an Appaloosa with all those spots.
He's so adorable. I just wuv him! _________________ Cynthia, huMom to Carly (Cw Your Charming), Princess (Lofty Princess), & Cruz, the galgo
