Charlotte Playgroup Rules
Because we want our Greyhound Play Groups to be a fun and safe experience for all hounds and humans. The following rules have been established. Although we love to socialize with others who share our love for greyhounds, the main purpose is to exercise our hounds off leash. Therefore, we all need to remain alert to dogs and the pack dynamics on the field and do our visiting while our hounds are safely leashed. Thank you.
1. All participants must sign the Hold Harmless form(s) before they are allowed to participate.
2. A properly adjusted muzzle is to be worn at all times when a greyhound is on the Play Group field. Greyhounds don’t have to be running to be competitive – there are many external triggers that can create an opportunity for injury. Please note even a properly adjusted muzzle can come off during rough play or an altercation!
3. No other breeds will be allowed on the field during Play Group due to the number of greyhounds running, as well as the fact that some greyhounds have been known to interact poorly with non-greyhounds in a ”free-running” environment.
4. Each greyhound must always be under the control of their human(s) at all times. Allowing greyhounds to run off lead does not negate that responsibility in any way. We, the humans, are responsible for ensuring the safety of these hounds and unacceptable behavior is to be corrected as quickly as possible.
5. Humans should have leashes in hand and are expected to walk around the field as the greyhounds move around during play. This is to ensure that there is someone in close proximity to the greyhounds wherever they are on the field and we can appropriately supervise the hounds and allows for quick intervention if problems arise.
6. All humans are expected to correct unacceptable behavior of any greyhound even if the adoptive human is not in the immediate vicinity. Unacceptable behavior can lead to severe problems and must be stopped immediately.
7. If two or more greyhounds become excitable and/or unruly, “humans” are expected to IMMEDIATELY intervene, separate and exercise full control of the hounds.
8. The play field must be left as clean as it was found. Please ensure that all solid (and not so solid) waste matter is promptly and appropriately retrieved, and disposed of. There are waste bins located at the field. You should bring disposal bags with you or use the pooper scooper located by the waste can.
9. No more than 10 dogs are to be off leash at any time on the field and the Play Group organizer reserves the right to restrict the number of dogs on the field at any given time for the safety of all participants. Introducing new hounds to the other members of Play Group should always done cautiously because new (fresh) dogs change the group dynamics and this will need to be monitored. In general, as long as the numbers do not excite a tendency for instability/fighting, the greyhounds are allowed to run at their leisure.
10. Play Group will not be held if it is raining or the field is wet. A wet surface can cause the greyhounds to slip. Falls at high speed can result in serious injury. Please check
