Those of you who help out at the kennel - what is your opinion of Tony? Looks like he's been at the kennel for over a year now.
I'll be calling Wayne or Randy in the coming weeks, but what is your impression of him? Does he crate or does he have "office sleeping privileges"? Any special needs or amusing habits?
I've been looking at his picture for a long time.
 Just lookin'.
Some of you may remember Oliver (with us now) or even Comet (gone to the bridge). I've got a soft spot for those old boys.
So tell me what you think about him. Good, bad or other. Some things we can deal with, some not. But the more I gather the more my DH gets interested. |

Hey Ducky
I will check to see if I can find out why Tony was returned the first time around. He was adopted out in June and returned in or around Oct.
He bit one of the owners other dogs this time-I don't know if anyone knows why (if it was over something, toy? food?) From what I was told, the owner was in her 80's and was afraid to keep him.
Tony sleeps in the kennel at night-we already have 3 lobby dogs, but Randy and Wayne keep him out in the lobby all day when they are there-with muzzle as all lobby dogs are.
He's a sweet boy and so far gets along fine, so I don't know if this was an isolated incident or not.
I don't see him in our database for his first adoption, so don't know if we took him in when someone needed to return him.
Sorry I can't tell you much more, but I'll see what else I can find out if anything when I go up the kennel tomorrow. I don't know if Randy or Wayne knows any more than I do. _________________ Blanche E Fedor

Thanks Blanche.
My Oliver (12 1/2) isn't bothered by other dogs.
My Gracie (6 1/2) is quite alpha but generally ignores Oliver and fosters.
My Pudge (mutt, 5-ish) just HAS to kiss each greyhound that comes in the house on the snout. Oliver didn't like it at first and let her know it. Now he's given up and just lets her do it. Fosters and another greyhound that I babysat once snarked at her and she backed down. So it would be a concern if Tony would have no patience with Pudge getting in his face.
Please let me know what you can find out.
Just curious, who are the 3 with lobby-sleeping privileges? |

Fingers crossed for Tony. I look at his picture too when I go to the site. I just love the old guys!! His white muzzle is so sweet. Unfortunately Tony has those two dreaded words, "No Cats".
Miss Gerty my 19 yr old kitty is the reigning Queen here. And Miss Gerty loves to use sleeping greyhounds as foot stools up onto the sofa.

How sweet! I have been told this is a sign of submission. She is letting them that she is a lover not a fighter. _________________ Lynda M

The 3 lobby dogs are Jenny-who is 13, doesn't like to be handled only by 3 or 4 people-she will spend her life there-is on Deramax to keep her moving-we thought we were going to lose her about a month ago-but now a half a deramax 2x a day has her going again. 2 years aga she was left at a boarding kennel she used to stay at -her owners were going to put her down because there isn't much on her you can touch or she snaps.
About all you can touch is the top of her head-no ears-and a little on her back.
Aries is there (not on the website, but is adoptable) and Gaia=she was returned because her owner didn't have enough time for her-she returned her other one a couple of years ago for the same reason. _________________ Blanche E Fedor

Actually I think she's performing a periodontal exam. |

That's so sad about Jenny.
Oliver is nearly un-pettable, but that's because he's so ticklish. I can pet his head, pet, chin and thighs. Touch him anywhere else and he falls over. I swear he giggles then too. |

Hi,
I volunteer at the kennel on Saturdays. I love Tony too. He is a beautiful light brindle with soft whiteness around his face. He is extremely affectionate and very cuddly. He loves to go on walks but I have noticed that after about 30-45 minutes he slows down a little. Around the other kennel dogs he is very mild-mannered and gets stepped on all the time by them as he is lying on a bed without a cross word from him. He did growl briefly at my Finch once but I think it was mostly in excitement as she came thru the gate in the morning. There is a long letter from his previous owner posted on his crate. I think he is a truly wonderful dog.

Thanks Kathleen.
I love those older boys so Tony and PJ are my kind of 'guys'. Now if I just keep working on my human guy You never know what Cinco de Mayo might bring........ |
