Well things are going pretty well with Pandy but i noticed one day this weekend she had some pretty rotten breath. I didn't think much about it. I just figured it happens from time to time.

Well later that day i went into the back bedroom to clean out the cat boxes and noticed both boxes were empty. I had seen them earlier in the day and knew they needed cleaning. I think Pandy had gone in and got herself a little "Snickers bar" snack! I can't believe i let her lick my face!!!

Anyway i made a speed run to Walmart for a baby gate. Now all is well.

I remember when i was meeting the greyhounds that Mike was trying to eat some of those "Snickers bars" in the grass. Does anybody know why they do that?

The icky habit of poop eating is known as coprophagia (cop-ra-FAY-jee-a) and there are many suggestions on how to stop them from doing it. The only successful one I have found is to pooper scoop immediately after they go. And as you have found to block the cat box from their access. We have the baby gate raised off the floor so the cat can come an go by go under but the dogs can't.

Poop is said to have vitamins and beneficial bacteria which won't hurt them to redigest. Although I prefer mine get their goodies from food and supplements. Laughing Poop can also contain parasite that is not good for them. When Miles was with us he would be turned out with a muzzle and poop guard if we did not have time to scoop that day.

Such a frank discussion of poop so early in the morning. Rolling Eyes

Keep posting stories on Pandy. We love to read about how they are doing.

Some hounds that will eat cat poop will not eat dog poop. All dogs love pig poop. they look like liver treats. With 5 hounds I have some that will and some that don't. Poop guard and/or keeping the poop picked up is the best thing to do. Laughing

My dogs are always trying to help me out by cleaning the litter boxes when they can get to them!!!
It is a rare delicacy for dogs.
Hooray for baby gates!!!

we call it "cookie" eating in our house. kyra will get into the litter box and eat cookies and the real bad thing is with those great big great dane lips, it kind of hides in there and then the litter gets kind od schmeared onto the sides of the bed or dribbles on the floor...quite nasty!!!!

Dan and I joke about the Poo Poo Platter all the time. Our Bubba is also a big fan of the Crap Rangoon. Laughing
