We have had our 2nd hound for a month.
She has begun to pee on our carpet in our den and this has caught us by surprise! We think that she does not want to go outside when the weather is bad.
We are not sure how to stop this!! I know she is potty-trained, but she has for whatever reason not been good to let us know she needs to go outside to potty like our first hound.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!! |

Have you ruled out a UTI infection,? Maddie had one when I got her and then had another about a month later- she would go in the house as well with no warning. _________________ Amy

I have not!! Thanks!
Could that also explain a sluggish appetite?

I've got a hound, Carly, who doesn't like to go out when the weather is bad. This isn't uncommon, but it does get trying when the weather stays wet and nasty for such long periods of time. When it's wet outside and Carly has not done her business outside (you can take them out but you can't make them go), I make sure I don't leave her unattended indoors. You might try making sure your girl doesn't have unsupervised access to the carpeted area she's been using indoors. Oh, and be sure to use one of those enzyme based cleaners (like Simple Solution, Nature's Miracle, etc.) to clean the pee spot. That will remove the odor (and any stain) and will help deter further use of that spot since dogs use scent to define their toilet area.
Carly is getting better about the rain thing, but it's taken a while. When the first couple of rainy seasons hit after you adopt you can go through this with some of them, but I've found it does get better. You might try carrying a treat outside and only giving it to her immediately after she potties outdoors. I used this with success with one of my male greyhounds years ago.
And Amy's point about the UTI is a very good one. If you haven't already ruled it out as the cause, have your vet check her.
Hang in there. It gets better. _________________ Cynthia, huMom to Carly (Cw Your Charming), Princess (Lofty Princess), & Cruz, the galgo
