What a nice site! So glad I found you! I adopted my first Grey over a month ago - he is VERY loving, but cannot handle being alone. I got a foster grey to keep him company, and because I want to help the cause, but he still is not adjusting well. He was with 2 families before me - no problems with either one. At my home, if allowed, he chews and pees mercilessly. And, no matter what precaustions I take (even crating!), he defecates a LOT.
Help! I still Love this Dog!

Hi Chase,
Welcome to the site. Sounds like a possible case ofSeparation Anxiety to me. My greyMaddie had SA when I first got her. She chewed on her crate, whimed, chewed on the door molding, and the door knob and ate her way out of her crate numerous times. I tried everything with her. We used comfort Zone and it appeared that it worked , also after a long talk with the vet I decided to give her medication that would help her relax. Which it did and she has come a long way since those first 2 months. Is the foster helping with your first not being alone or is itstill happening. _________________ Amy

Hi Chase, I am Debbie Rater, Fostor coordinator for Greyhound Firends of NC in Charlotte. Sounds like there are a lot of stress issues going on here. Not just the dog either. Who are you fostering for? If you want to, please let me know and I will call you and we can work on some things. Its much to much to post here and may get confusing.
send me your number in an e mail and I can call and we can work this out. What you are going through is very normal when bringing home a grey. The first think you have to do is not stress yourself out and get help ASAP.

Hi Chase,
congrats on new fur baby! I also am in Ga, not too terribly far from you. We are in Winder GA, don't forget the long walks with your new buddy, and if you need a play date, email me, we have over 2 acres fenced in and my 3 would love someone new to play with.
Good luck _________________ Lindey, Nubie, Cricket and huMom Amy |

Hi Chase,
I also went through this with our 2nd one. She would pee and chew everything in sight. Eventually after a while she stopped it took many new plugs on items but she is just wonderful. We dont crate them and have not found anything they have chewed on in about 2 yrs. Good luck to you both.

Chase, Did you get my very long e mail?
You have to crate them. The crate is a safe place, a learning tool and will save your windows and doors from damage.
If chewing is occuring in the crate, use a muzzle also. _________________ Debbie, mom to Reggie, Tim Tam, Chloe Isabeau, Ballou, Jessie James and Jossie. (2 legged kids Cody and Kelly) Hubby Ron

yes, thx! I put muzzles on them, but let them roam while I am gone. Want to get a doggie door - any ideas on a cheap one? _________________ Chase |

Chase,
If you have only had your grey for a little over a month...he is still learning the rules. The crate protects him and your home. The idea of a doggie door isn't something I would suggest but if you have made up your mind on that...I'd wait until you have some of the other issues worked out before installing one. They really shouldn't have a lot of freedom at first. I swear by the crate. I don't worry what are my dogs doing when I'm not home. If an accident should happen...it's a lot easier to clean a crate then carpet or furniture.
Good Luck!
