In the good news department, once we get through the situation with Debbi's dad, we may be getting Bo's one and only surviving brother from their litter of 10 greys.

Bev's Kavorkian (Corky) has been returned to Greyhound Crossroads by the family that has had him almost two years. Corky and two other greys have been returned not for anyone's fault but due to an unavoidable family medical situation that will not be resolved for quite some time. Scott and Aimee Kuhn had been fosters in Charleston and I know that this was a difficult decision for them.

At the present time, our plans will be to arrange to "foster" Corky until we can make sure the two brothers get along. We are thrilled that Kim Owens was receptive to our offer and hope things work out. By all accounts, the description of Corky is that he is a big, goofy loving greyhound. Sound familiar? Corky is the same size as Bo but fawn with a dark, amost black muzzle. He's a good looking boy and of course a son of the Great Champion, Oswald Cobblepot. ;)

Anyhow, you guys may remember me telling the group that Corky was returned in fall of 2004 but by the time I found out, Scott and Aimee had gone from fosters to adopting him. If at all possible, we intend to reunite the brothers for their natural born day here with us.

That so far, has at least given us a little something to smile about for 2007.

Take care and we'll keep you posted.

A sibling!! Cool! I have never been able to locate a sibling for any of mine. We have fingers and paws crossed that Corky and Bo get along together.

I hope it works out for the boys to be reunited! I've heard many people say they remember each other even if they've been separated for years.
We'll keep fingers and paws crossed. Keep us posted.

Update - Corky will be coming to Charlotte by way of a rep from Greyhound Crossroads on Monday. In an email from Corky's foster this week, her description could just have easily been of Bo. Look out Charlotte, Bo in stereo!! ;)

Also was able to communicate with the family in Charleston, SC and have gotten some good medical info as well. They were thrilled to hear that we were interested in Corky and we all have our fingers crossed that the two boys get along.

Very cool. I hope all goes well. You know, my new girl Mem is a granddaughter of Oswald Cobblepot and Cathy R. has Mem's mom and littermate, Ashley Rose. I love knowing where Mem's sister and mommy is located.

Just thought I'd give everyone an update of Corky. I picked him up from the GC coordinator on Monday and on the way home, he couldn't decide if he wanted to ride in the back seat or the front on the way. Guess he didn't want to miss any of the sights in Charlotte.

I had Stacy meet us outside with Bo when we got home so the first thing we did was to take the boys for a walk. Not sure if they recognized each other but did the standard check the whistle, stiff the butt thing. Went for a walk thru the neighborhood and stopped by to see Aunt Helen (not really). Helen fostered a grey thru GFNC in 2002 which was our intro to greyhounds and we fell in love immediately. She loves Bo and was thrilled to meet brother Corky too. Finished our walk and then I had to go back to work. Stacy called later and said, "Dad we've lost the futon!" Bo claimed his usual spot and Corky took the other end where they rested the rest of the afternoon.

Debbi and Stacy took the boys on a walk after dinner and then we did one last lap OUT around the block before bed. Mon. night, Bo slept in our room and Corky hung out with Stacy and then slept in his room. Trying to ease the transistion by letting Debbi and Stacy handle Corky most of the time so Bo won't feel rejected. He is Daddy's boy.

Yesterday went well and repeated the sleep arrangements last night. Took a long walk after work and Corky got to meet some new neighbors. Did have a special moment with a "Roofest" after dinner which was funny. Corky has a deeper voice than Bo so they roo in parts.

All in all, everything seems good so far. There hasn't been a discouraging word between the two of them and Bo seems to be sharing his space well including letting Corky sleep in his crate. They both despise the muzzles, rub us and everything in the house and want them off. Will continue using the muzzles but trying to find some opportunities during the day to separate them so they don't have to keep them on day and night.

The biggest surprise is that Corky is larger than Bo by about 1 1/2 inches at the shoulder and probably around 80 pounds. He's almost too big for the crate that Sarah Goldstein loaned us but the foster and former owner said he really was good around the house and didn't need crating but does go in and out when he wants a little space. He's a big sweet boy, lots of personality, loves meeting people and expects some attention. Yep, sounds like his brother Bo.

Got up at 6 this morning and took a walk, they had breakfast and are both now sacked out on the futon each covered with an afgan to keep the warm. Tough life, huh?

Later-
Kirk

Sounds like you all are doing everything right and it's paying off. I'm so glad to hear everything is going well. As you've probably already discovered, two are just twice love and joy! Congreytulations on your chip!

BTW, I saw Corky's picture on GC's website. He's a gorgeous boy.

Gary-
If you want to get all the offspring of Oswald Cobblepot together we're gonna need the Panthers stadium and a whole lot of plastic bags to hold an Ozfest. As of today, Oswald has 5649 offspring which truly puts him in a class of his own as a "Tired" racer. The old boy actually passed but his viles are still carrying on the the legacy of the great champion.

The brothers (Bo & Corky) have had a good day and I actually left the office early so I could walk them in the sunshine for a change. By the time I usually get home from my evening meetings, it's dark.

Think Corky is beginning to get the feeling this isn't just another stop on the way to somewhere else. Not sure that Bo has made that connection but he's been pretty accepting. The fact that his brother is taller, longer and outweighs him by 8-10 lbs may also factor in. Corky has really done nothing to threaten Bo as well so I took the muzzles off this afternoon. Still keeping a close eye on them and have a visual of the two all the times. Corky really likes Bo's crate and Bo doesn't care as long as he has a spot on the futon. They give each other some space and that's a good sign.

There's a big cheering section over on the Greyhound Crossroads Forum - Crosstalk so I posted an update there as well. Lynda and Rick had teased us for so long about getting another hound but I have a feeling this may have been the reason we hadn't done anything before now. It not only makes a pretty good story but what's better than watching one greyhound sacked out? Try two reunited brothers that don't appear to have a care in the world and that my friends is what it's all about for our retired racers. ;)

My Carly (CW Your Charming) is an Oswald daughter. I'm also happy to say that her mother, Spark (Forbes LPD Spark) is enjoying a well deserved retirement with a family in Florida. She ran over 170 races and produced two litters of puppies. Her family sends me pictures of her. I know one of Carly's littermates was adopted out through GPA Orlando, but I don't have any contact info for his family. Maybe I don't have enough to do, but it's nice to know where they are. Very Happy
