Hi, my name is Doug and my better half is Peggy. We are not new to Greyhounds but new here. Our first Greyhound died in early November and we swayed back in forth (at least I did) about getting another one or any dog at all since it broke our heart when Ciris passed. But you all know how that is you just can't resist. So on Sunday we went up to Oak Ridge and we picked out Buco. We will be bringing him home this Saturday and we are looking forward to it. We have two sons STILL living with us (but thats another story) Rolling Eyes we also have pet rats (mine) Laughing and a pet bird that will drive you nuts singing the Andy griffith theme song (don't ask me why I taught it to him). Anyway we just wanted to say hi and hope to meet some of you later.

Welcome Doug and Peggy and Buco!
I know Buco will never take the place of your beloved Ciris, but I hope he is able to fill some of the void left by him. Buco is a very sweet boy. I volunteer on Wednesdays and Sundays and I think I met you briefly last week. Good luck with him. Keep in touch and let us know how well he adjusts to your family.

Welcome Doug and Peggy! Buco is one handsome guy. I just checked his picture on the website.

Rats hmmmm Rolling Eyes I think I have one under my house I am trying to catch. Do you want him? Laughing Very Happy

My name is Lynda and DH is Rick. We have three greyhounds (Leo 12, Toby 9 & Jasmine 5). We also have a mix breed who thinks she is a greyhound. Miss Maggie-Mae is 5. And we have a 19 yr old cat named Gerty.

Welcome to the group and I do hope you join us for dinner. The local greyhound owners get together once a month for good food and conversation about how wonderful greyhounds are. The next dinner is Feb 10th 6:30pm. The location has not been selected yet but will be north Charlotte direction. The info will be posted on this forum.

GFNC also sponsors an annual event called Mountain Hounds in Gatlinburg TN. This is a weekend filled with activity for you and your greyhound. Check out the website,

and also the Mountain Hounds section here in the forum.

Again welcome!! And when Buco joins you posts pictures of him. We do love pictures.

Hi Doug,
You didn't mention what area you're in. There's neat stuff going on in the Triangle, too!
Best wishes to you, your DW and lucky Buco!

Welcome and congreytulations on your new boy! He's very handsome. We look forward to your posts and pictures.

For me, one dog never replaces another. I always think of adopting again as honoring the memory of my departed dog. I lost my 13 year old boy about 3 weeks ago and was devasted. He'd been with me 7 1/2 years. My father asked me why I keep putting myself through this and I did my best to explain to him (he's not an animal lover) that I could save myself the pain of another loss by never having another dog, but that would be no quality of life for me.

I heard a saying recently "Dogs make us human." Personally, I feel like a more complete person when I share my life with a dog.

Welcome and Congrats on your new boy!! Applause

It is so hard to lose your animals, they are so much a part of us and our daily life.
Adding a new one is scary because we know the risks and it is hard to start from scratch.
But each day brings you closer.
The new ones help to fill the hole the old one left for sure,
in some ways they are like the old ones and that is something
to celebrate as they keep a little part of your departed friend with you and
then in some ways they are different and their own unique self
and that is special and exciting as it unfolds. sparkle

I lost 3 of my dogs last year and I wouldn't have made it without new babies to love and care for.
They keep me going and make each worthwhile. Smile

Thanks to all. Well it's Saturday morning and we will be leaving in just a little while to go get Buco. If you can't tell I am excited. We live up on the north side of Charlotte in Huntersville so it only take about 1:15 to get to Oak ridge from here at least the way I drive it does. We will post some pictures soon.
