I know how much you all love to hear about Maddie's backyard adventures, so here is another one to add to the collection.

Last night I let Maddie out to do her thing after dinner, I saw there was a bunny out there and I had glanced away from it for a few moments as I was watching her "highness" I thought bunny had made it out of the fence into freedom, boy was I wrong, all of a sudden, Maddie charged and I heard a squealing noise and realized Maddie had the bunny, I ran outside and was screaming at her to "drop the bunny" but as any 4 1/2 year old- she did not listen, ran into the house (through the sliding glass door that was left open in my haste to save the bunny) with the squealing bunny in her mouth. By this time I am frantic, as I don't want to have to kill thebunny if needed. I am still yelling at her to drop it, then I think of Maddie's favorite word. "Cookie"- I quickly pretend to go to the pantry to get a cookie, she lets the bunny go who is now in the corner of the living room and behind a chair. I grab Mads by the collar, before she can do anymore damage and the bunny hops to the back sliding glass door to freedom. I quickly shut the door so the Mads cannot go after it. Needless to say, I was frantic and she is running around the living room thinking that the bunny is still there. Needless to say, I don't think (or hope) that the bunny will be making a stop to the Martin household anymore.

After calling Rick and Lynda, and me getting a couple of chuckles from them, it was all good and the bunny lived. Very Happy

I am sure you dreamed of that squeal that night. Fortunately the bunny lived and hopped away so there was no "disposal" needed. We don't have bunnys in our neighborhood but low flying birds have been snatched mid-air. And one feral kitten made his unfortunate way into our yard. Mine may be catsafe with Gerty inside but outside is a whole 'nother story.

Oooh! I've lived that horrible scenario more than once over the years! My first greyhound, Frostman, caught and ate two rabbits in the backyard. It was dark when I let him outside both times, so I didn't see them, but he did! My screaming did nothing but make him bolt them down quicker. Shocked I will never forget the sound they make.

My galgo, Irys, caught a rabbit in the early part of this year and scooted in the door with it -- still alive! When I finally got her to drop it, it was mortally wounded and died before I had to intervene. She was very upset when I took it from her. Galgos are bred for this purpose and there is no stopping them in their pursuit as I tragically discovered shortly thereafter.

Cruz (my current galgo) killed one about 6 months ago. It was so quick I didn't even see or hear it happen. I found the remains later. It had to be him because Keno's not physically able anymore and Carly has no prey drive.

Unfortunately, they still come in my yard all the time. I hope the ones in your neighborhood are smarter than these. I'm glad this rabbit tale had a "happy ending".
