Hi all! I hve had me grey, Caterina, aka Kit Kat, for 3 years now, and am loving every minute of it. I've been taking her to a public park for exercise/social time, but she's started to catch fleas. I can get rid of them easily enough with bathing and house cleaning, but she always picks up more at the park. the info available on-line for permanent prevention like Advantage is all across the board, and some of what I found I know is no good for 'hounds. What do you folks recommend? |

I used Frontline but changed to Advantage last year. I also flea comb them. You might try using a flea comb after leaving the dog park. _________________ Linda

Ditto on the Brewers yeast!
About 4 years ago we were infested with fleas. We had to use boric acid on the carpets & cloth furniture, wash all bedding, etc. Once we were rid of them we started the brewers yeast and (knock on wood!!) we haven't seen any since.
We have deer in our yard all the time so we still have to use Frontline for the ticks. _________________ Ron & Jean

Comfortis
The Vet perscribed this for Carolina last year. It's a once a month tablet. She takes it the same day she takes her heartguard, but not at the same meal. Works great! We've seen no side effects of any kind.

We use Comfortis even though I luckily have seen no sign of fleas. I now stretch the time between pills to 45 days instead of 30.
We use Interceptor for heartworm protection.
Never use Vectra. The Petsmart vets are really pushing it and I know several dogs who have gotten deathly sick. |

Although we've used Advantage for years with no problem, we seem to have been visited by some very determined pests this summer. We've been able to discourage them with a few spritzes of Adams Flea and Tick spray. Our greyhounds and whippets have been fine with it. (Our cat was not happy but has had no health isuues ) _________________ Carol, huMom to greyhounds Sally, Tommy, Spirit, Bizzy, and Glitzy; whippets Dodge, Mandy and Spice, and Itty Bitty Kitty. It works on people if you don't mind being a little oily. Dogs and cats lick, would SSS cause any health problems if ingested? I would find out before I used it. _________________ Adopting one Greyhound will not change the world, but it will change the world for that one Greyhound.

Hi. Can someone post the "recipe" for the garlic/brewer's yeast? I too would like to try natural remedies whenever possible. |

When we were living in florida, you could buy a pre-mixed pill of the mix.. the dogs treated it like candy. It helped, but Otto (my first grey) was flea alleric, so even one would make him go bald.. then have the full run of Prednisone.. <sigh>
The pills were *cheap*... garlic powder and yeast.. a great combo.. |

Just did some querying.. and found...

One of the comments about the product was that a customer gives her German Shep about 7-8 of them a day. Depending on size, I'm not sure you really need that many, but still, for $6, not bad....
They also have another variety on the same page as a link.. $5.88 for a bottle of pills....
300 liver-flavored chewable tablets
Best used for dull coat caused by seasonal changes, pregnancy, dry winter climates, flea and allergy seasons, stress, poor diet and/or dry skin |
