As most of you know, several of us, with greyhounds, join in with the Carolina Renaissance Festival for 7 weekends in October and November every year. We raise awareness and money for the greyhounds.

I am opening the doors to anyone who is interested in joining in the fun.

Its what I call a meet and greet on speed !

Costumes have to be approved and contracts have to be signed.

This year, the Renaissance Festival has asked us to get everyone organized by the end of April. Yes, this month.
So if anyone would like more information about joining HOEF, I will be glad to talk with you and send you our membership contract to look over.

You dont have to do every weekend but we do ask that you do at least 3 full days during the 7 weekends. And, you dont have to live in the Charlotte area. We have members from Statesville and from South Carolina. We also have some visitors from Virginia every year.

Its a lot of work and long weekends but so much fun !!

I would like to volunteer, but I don't have a costume. I know that if I buy one it has to be approved first. Any favorite websites to get one? Any suggestion of what style?

I will try to answer both these questions.
Kendra, there is usually not much in the way of Mens costumes at the sale. The good thing is that as a new member of the group, you get to go into the sale room first, before us old folks go in !
I will anounce when the sale is when they let me know. Its usually in August.

Gabby, we would love to have you. The best way to find a costume and get it approved before you buy it, is to go on Ebay.
Search, Renaissance Costumes, or, Renaissance Gowns, or Renaissance costumes SCA
Then, if you see something you can afford and like, send me the link and I will look at it.
There are some things to read that I will send you. Just send me an email so I can send you information that way.

Its really fun but a lot of work. I tell everyone, you will either love it or hate it.

Gabby, I made my costume and had it approved by Debbie. It cost me about $50 in material, but that was for two skirts a blouse and the bodice. If you are interested I can make one for you, you can pick out colors and materials and give me measurements. Mine is not super fancy as I thought I would add on over time since it can add up with costs…. But it is just an option for you….

Cool.......we are going to the Open house on Saturday...... If you look at the pictures posted from the St. Patty's day parade you can see the one I made..... I have the floppy black hat with Caeley, the white and fawn grey.......I am working on a different vest then the one I made, one made out of a tapestry like material to jazz it up a little more... I thought I would make the basics first and then add on you know??!?!

OK, maybe you arn't interested in being part of Hounds of East Fairhaven. Maybe you have bigger dreams of being an actor !!!!!
Here is your chance. The festival is holding auditions for staring roles.

Let me know if you are interested and I will get you signed up !!!

We are auditioning specifically for the role of King on Saturday, July 12th from 12pm – 3pm. If you (or someone you know) would like to audition for the role of King, please contact me to schedule an audition.

We are also having General Auditions on Tuesday, July 15th from 6pm – 9pm, and on Saturday, July 19th from 12pm – 3pm. These auditions are for General Cast and the role of Prince. They also include any re-auditions—if by chance you have decided to change your character.

Please contact me if you (or someone you know) would like to set up an audition or a re-audition.

Auditions will be held at the Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church, 8300 McClure Circle, in Charlotte.

Additionally—please let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you!!

Debbie

Well, I wish I could be there at the Greyhound tent, but Dave Engraves will actually be vending at the Renaissance Faire at our own cart! Look for 'Lyttle Leathers"--that's us!

I was lucky enough to find a woman in Cherryville, NC (just past Gastonia) who made RenFaire clothing for over 20 years, and has a lot of leftover stock. She works with parrot rehoming and fostering, and is sensitive to the finances of animal rescue workers. She will offer some very nice pricing if she has items you need! She doesn't have hats or shoes or accessories, but she does have skirts, bodices, chemises, etc. for men and women (well, the bodices aren't for the men! Smile ).

You can email her your size and she can let you know what she has available. She'll be traveling into the Charlotte area once or twice a week for school and may be able to meet up around here.

Her name is Megan; this is her email:
