After 12 years, I finally got tired of my vet's know-it-all attitude and mistakes here and there. Rolling Eyes
Back then it was difficult to find a sighthound savvy vet, but now we have a choice of vets that successfully treat sighthounds.
Since he also raised his fees, there is no need to drive the 60 mile round trip, especially with today's gas prices.

So, when my afghan hound Butter was due for her vaccines I took her to a local vet that came highly recommended. All went well, I liked the staff and the thorough exam, and I felt comfortable to schedule a dental. tooth brushing

Butter is having her dental cleaning today, plus getting 3 little teeth extracted that are bad from eating poop. Yep, my 'beauty queen' is a poop eater. Shame on you

In addition to that, she managed to dislocate or even break her toe last night while fence-fighting with the neighbor dogs!! argh Those sweet dogs have lived there for 6 years, but every day fearless Butter has to tell them to stay clear of the fence line.

So here we are.. dental cleaning, tooth extraction and broken toe.... I am putting the new vet to the test!
Can't wait to pick up my little drama queen and pamper her with special treats and belly rubs. love

Did you just wrap Stormy's toe? I am sure you mentioned it in another post, but I forgot.
I usually wrap toes and let it heal for 4-8 weeks, it takes forever.

My greyhounds had dislocated toes, too. It is easier to see on greyhounds, Butter's feet are very hairy and it's difficult to even find a toe.

Bullet dislocated all four toes on one paw during his attempt to do lure coursing.
Waldo is very clumsy and hurt a toe while trying to cut corners in the yard.
GreenBean is pretty agile and never had a toe problem. But the night I had to put Bullet down due to cancer, she mysteriously dislocated a toe and limped!
I always laugh thinking about it, I am sure Bullet put the toe spell on her!

Butter's toe is broken. Sad But at least she has pearly white teeth again! Very Happy
The new vet is great and I will send my other dogs there one they are due for their shots.
Butter is pouting, I gave her special treats and a belly rub.
She is not allowed to go for walks or run in the yard for 6-8 weeks. She will spend a lot of time on the couch.

I'm devistated !!! My heart is totally shattered !!! I don't know if I can go on !!! Butter is a poop eater ? How can this be ? LOL
Paige is a poop eater too. She doesn't do the spin and snatch though, She likes the crunchy ones. Shocked Blue just eats dirt and Pride couldn't care less about anything. I love My hounds and all of their funny quirks.

Butter a poop eater!!! Tell me it ain't so. Not Butter.

We have a couple of those here to. Sweet little tiny Sugar likes to snack. And Jasmine likes it too.

Smokey and Toby eat dirt.

And they all eat grass.

Butter so glad you are home and safe. Hopefully the vet was very nice to you and petted you a lot for all you went through today.

Butter seems to like the new vet.... Today she is having a nasty looking tumor removed from her ear! I noticed it during her weekly bath on Saturday, how could I've missed it before? It must've popped up within a few days. It needs to come off before it gets too big and we run out of skin to stitch it back together. Thank goodness the vet was able to see her right away.

So.. there goes more money... And they'll have to shave her ear!
Poor Butter, and poor me... Sad

Update: Butter is back home and feeling whoozy from the morpine. Very Happy She is sporting several stitches in her ear but they didn't shave too much of her hair. They are using lazer for surgeries which leaves a clean cut and minimal or no bruising or bleeding, very nice.
Vet said the tumor looked mean but had clean margins. Now I have to wait for the biopsy results.
My wallet is a bit lighter, too. Rolling Eyes

Butter, hope you are feeling better today. And that the hair they did trim comes back quickly.

Paws crossed for the biopsy.

Thanks! Very Happy
I heard Butter singing and yodeling in the back when I picked her up. The vet tech asked if she sings like that at home? Yep, she sure does!
Thankfully they didn't shave much hair off her ear. The vet does laser surgery which leaves a clean cut and reduces bruising and bleeding, very nice.

Butter felt pretty woozy on morphine and acted like a drunk person, it was very cute. On the way home we stopped at McD's and shared a chicken sandwich.

Vet said the tumor looked meanand nasty but had clean margins and was fairly easy to remove. Now we have to wait for the biopsy results.
Butter slept snuggled up in my arms all night and didn't move. What a little drama queen! Rolling Eyes love

Good news on Friday 13th Very Happy : Butter's growth on her ear is only a benign hairfolicle that went on a crazy growing spree, nothing to worry about! But these kind of things tend to get big and need to be taken off before there won't be enough skin to stitch it back together. Hope she won't get more of these, at $300 a piece it can add up quickly. Well, I wouldn't send the next one out for biopsy, so that saves $$. But it still adds up.
Interesting, always learning something new.

Today is a good day. Very Happy
