I'd love to see an "I am adopted" sign on Gaia. She's been at the kennel for a long time. I talked to her previous owner when she first contacted adoption and feel bad for both of them - her owner for having to give her up, and for Gaia for having to wait for her home so long.
What can we do to get her into a good home?
10 1/2 years old. No Cats. She's very sweet AND well behaved female that just wants some love, a few toys and big Ole' comfy bed. Her prior owner had to return because of long work hours and didn't think it was fair to her to be left so many hours alone! _________________ Christina

Gaia has been at the kennel almost 2 years now, so she is 12 now. Not many people want a dog that old and she doesn't like another dog near her crate-barks at them till they move. She does stay in the old lobby-not in the back with the other dogs. She has to be muzzled out of her crate because she doesn't like another dog by her bed if she is on one and if you should be petting her and another dog comes over she will snap at them. _________________ Blanche E Fedor

Sounds like the only dog in the house type which would explain why she's still at the kennel. Most people who get a greyhound usually wind up with more than one because they're such a great pet. That's why I have three of My own. I feel sorry for her though, I hope she finds a home.

That's the same reason Clown is still at the kennel. He was returned because he couldn't get along with other dogs in the home he was in and also can't handle kids. He went to a foster home for a while but had the same problems. Another only dog and who wants the older ones like that.
Even if we get retired people looking for a dog they don't want an older one that they might lose in one or two years. Other than being older and having to be the only dog, they are still good people dogs and still want to be loved.
If someone was interested in older dogs like that, we wouldn't even charge a fee, but people like that aren't easy to find. _________________ Blanche E Fedor

You know, sometimes I understand why not many people would want to adopt a "senior".However we adopted a senior,Blue Moon, and she is just the joy of our lives...right along with our other 2 dogs.We couldn't have made a better choice.Would I adopt another senior? You bet I would.Sure, they may not live as long as you would want them to,but even younger dogs die young.Every dog,old or young,or in between deserves to have a loving home. Why not a senior?Think about it?Blue has cost us no more in vet bills than the other 2 who are much younger. She is just a blessing to us and we love her so much. And when her time on earth comes,we will be sad and miss her so very much, but at least we will know that we probably gave her the best years of her life. So,just think about it.Please want someone give her a loving home? She deserves the best.

In my last post,I meant to say when Blues' life on earth has come and gone....Anyway,Blue still loves to run(and she still runs like the wind). She is still very active and can outrun both Paige and Pride!!She can jump up on my bed,the couch,or anywhere she wants to!!Blue is very playful and enjoys playing with all her toys. She also "rules the roost"here at our home. She demands attention, and if you don't give it to her,she starts whinning 'til you do.And if you don't do it right, she growls at you!!She is just a total mess!!She is very confident and outgoing and so far has had no major health issues. When we go the the Kannapolis playgroup, she pretty much can outrun most of the other dogs.We could care less how old she is...we love her and she loves us and that's how it should be!

We love seniors (and hounds who have bounced back) but we, like many other greyhound families, have more than one dog (not to mention a cat). As you know some greyhounds will learn to live with others given enough time, but it hardly seems fair to ask some of these older dogs to endure the stress that's a part of that. I would guess that Gaia would fall in that group. _________________ Carol, huMom to greyhounds Lee, Sally and Bizzy, whippets Dodge, Mandy and Spice, and Itty Bitty Kitty. Keep on trekking, Blue!!
My GreenBean is 11 1/2 and can still go on 5 mile nature hikes. She is very active in the winter, but the summer heat makes he slow down a lot, I don't blame her. _________________ Christina

What is Jackson's story? He is 12 years old, poor guy...
Is he the dog that was fostered in Raleigh, went to a home with another grey but was returned, then adopted by another family?
I feel so bad for the old hounds being homeless... I know they get the very best care and lots of love at the kennel, but it's just not the same as having their own family and home. _________________ Christina

I had a man call me today that might be interested in Jackson-he is from Charlotte and his neighbor has one of our girls. He said in dog age, Jackson is a little older than he is. He lost his cat a couple of weeks ago and loves the neighbors dog, but doesn't want a young one.
He is talking about doing an application and coming up to see him. _________________ Blanche E Fedor
