I bought the "lite" version of Odie's food... if it is the same brand and practically the same ingredients, do you think it will mess with his stomach?

Why did you want to switch him to the "lite" version? You feed Nutro, don't you? With Nutro there can be significant caloric difference between the different formulas. Since you should do a gradual switch (75/25, 50/50, 25/75) over a couple of weeks, this should give you time to see if he has tummy troubles or starts to drop weight. If he loses weight after you switch completely, it maybe his calorie intake is too low, especially if he starts running/playing more.

As of right now, Odie is a pretty "lazy" dog and his last trip to the vet made me realize that he was gaining weight quickly since he had been at my house. He gained 2 lbs which pushed him over his max weight that the vet said to keep him below. The difference between the lite and normal versions of the food i am using is 100 calories per cup. Since I can feed him more of the lite version, I am only reducing his intake by about 300 calories a day. (Trust me... I did the math ) I have been mixing the lite and normal versions for the past couple of days. His stomach hasn't seemed to have noticed. I plan to take him back to the vet at the end of the month to see if it has changed his weight any.

Sounds like you are doing things right. Odie was about right when you took him home, and shouldn't get overweight as he is a very big boy. Keeping him around racing weight will be better for him in the long run as he he gets older.

You've done your homework! Lots of gold stars!! So many times I've found that folks didn't realize there can be a big calorie difference between foods. That's why I mentioned it. I told you Odie was lucky to find you!!!

Hint: I have had dogs who lost to much weight on low-cal food and were gaining on the higher cal kibble; so I wound up finding a blend. It's always an option should you need it.

i will make sure i keep a watch on his weight and adjust as needed. the change in food hasn't affected him any yet so i don't think that will be a problem.

Wow, your greys are all so big! Molly was only 46 pounds when we adopted her and about 55 pounds now. And she is a tiny bit overweight because Daddy rounds out the scoops too much! 90 pounds is a lot of greyhound!

The people that did our home visit three & a half years ago had a 95 pounder and We did an adoption a little over a year ago and that boy was 105 pounds !!! 46 pounds sounds like a big Whippet. LOL
Greyhounds can be fat and not look it so don't be afraid to truck them off to the Vet and get them weighed from time to time.

i just looked back at this and it was weird how he was so hungry and now that stormy is here, i can't get odie to finish a meal.... ever! he always has food left over at both meals. i even feed him while i take stormy out and nobody else is in here with him. he was really stressed eating next to stormy. i don't know what to do to get him to eat. he still looks healthy and he is acting fine but i think it is weird that he won't eat his food.
