Hello All,

My husband, Mark, and I, and our two greyt "kids", Indy and Cooper as well as my dad, Gregg, his wife, Aaliyah, and their "senior" grey, Ira, will be attending the Mountain Hounds for the first time this year.......and we are PSYCHED!!

I have been diligently reading the wonderful information provided here and on the MH website, and have a question regarding the Charity Walk......my confirmation email stated:
"The charity walk is back again this year so bring those costumes and donation coats. The money you collect on the walk can be given to your local group or donated to GFNC."

What are "donation coats"? And how do we collect money on the Charity walk?

Also - is there a charge for the "Walk in the Woods"? And, will we need to reserve a spot for these walks? Or for any of the seminars/events (other than purchasing the tickets for the lunch and BBQ)?

Thank you, and looking forward to seeing everyone at the event!
Shannon

So glad you are joining us. I am PSYCHED too but that could be because it is only 16 MORE DAYS!!!!

You do not need reservations for anything except the food tickets you purchased. The Walk in the Woods is free. The company donates their time to us. It is a wonderful walk and very informative.

The Charity Walk is a walk into town with a van ride back for greyhounds and owners. Wouldn't want those dogs to get too tired. And it is up hill on the way back. Its purpose is to show the greyhounds off to the people in Gatlinburg so they can see how wonderful the breed it. People will dress their dog to impress. Which is one reason why we hold it right after the costume contest.

A donation coat is something adoption groups use to get donations. The dog wears it (similar to a winter coat but light weight) and it has clear pockets on the side for people to stick money in. It is always good to stick in a buck or two so they see the money and "get the picture". We also have plastic containers you can carry that has donation on it. Some people bring extra coats and let others borrow. Then you can take the money you collected back to your own adoption group or donate it to Greyhound Friends. You don't have to collect any money on the walk. Again its main purpose is to have fun and show off the dogs and answer questions about the dog.

See you in a few days!
