Angel had the best time at playgroup this weekend. I have never seen her run so fast and hard. Unfortunately, i noticed her walking kind of funny and carefully afterwards. Upon inspecting her legs and paws i noticed that her big pads were raw on each side. There was also some skin torn off. I am assuming it was from all that hard running, and i have been putting ointment and bandages on them (as well as cleaning them). My question is - has this happened to anyone else, and if so what did you do for it. Also is there any way to prevent that other than not letting her run...

Thanks

You are doing about all you can do. The pad will grow back in a couple of weeks. I wouldn't take her running next week, but she'll be okay. If she hasn't been running much and she was running for a long time, her pads were just tender-she didn't have a callus built up.

I usually put liquid bandage on them, then just let them air out. If she is licking at them or you have to go outside, put a infant sock on it and secure it with a little vet wrap. I try to let pads air out as much as possible. If its still bleeding, then you can bandage it a bit.

Gina

She looked like she was having a blast at palygroup this weekend. I know Maddie did. She was exhausted after playgroup and then the yard sale where she conned Mommy into buying a burger all for herself.
