Hey All! I thought some of you might want to see a picture of doggie acupuncture. Here is ProMan getting his treatment last week. Pro has severe arthritis and nerve compression in his spine. He is old (14 ½) and will never be cured. Treatment from a Vet who specializes in physical therapy and rehab is making him more comfortable and hopefully extending his life.
The needles are thin as hairs and painless. Pro gets about 40 needles. They stay in 20-30 minutes. Most dogs lie down and go to sleep during the procedure. Pro refuses to lie down because he is not able to get himself up from the floor. Vet needs to get a sofa. HA!
Pro is very thin, even for a greyhound. He was 82 pounds in his prime. Now he is down to 55 pounds. He eats puppy food three times a day and gets two bottles of Ensure every day. It goes in and comes out normally but he doesn’t gain weight. If anyone has any advice about how to get some weight on Pro I would love to hear it.

Oh Pro you are so cute with those needles sticking out. My cat and Toby both got acupuncture. Toby also chose to stand through the whole thing. With him they attached little electrodes to the needles and did some zaps to the muscle.

One thing I would do is add enzymes to Pro's food if he is not getting that. Something like Prozyme from Entirelypets.com or Wobyzyme from Swanson's Vitamins. We are using one from Azmira called Digest Zymez from Azmira. You can get it from Debbie with the Canidae. Enzymes will help them retain more of the nutrients from the food. I will email you an article from Whole Dog Journal that talks about enzymes.
