I recieved an email from Tara who's had trouble registering here.
This is what she sent me:

"Please consider posting the following thread for me on the GFNC board. I have yet to hear from anyone about getting access to post on the board and Cougar’s getting worse. Thanks!

I’m looking for a recommendation for a grey savvy vet located close to Salisbury, NC. I am specifically looking for one that is knowledgeable about corns on paw pads. If anyone could give me the name of a vet clinic in Kannapolis, Concord, Lexington, etc. that would be great. If not, I would be willing to travel to Winston, Charlotte or Greensboro. Thanks!

Tara, Coach and Cougar"

I'm in! Very Happy

That was a little tricky when it was telling me I was inactive and to contact an administrator for help and it wouldn't let me PM or e-mail since I wasn't logged in although I could see all listed in the members' directory. Is there a link somewhere for nonmembers to contact the administrators?

Glad to be here though I'm not happy about the reason I'm posting tonight. Cougar has developed a corn on his paw pad and it's starting to give him a lot of trouble. I'm not happy with the vets I've seen here in Salisbury and I'd like to take both Coach and Cougar to someone who really knows greys.

They will turn 12 and 11 this year and I've seen a pretty big change in them over the last year. I'd like to ensure their quality of life as long as possible and want a vet that will take the time to become familiar with them and not just make me feel like they are another appointment on their schedule and they need to move on to the next one.

Any suggestions of vets within 30 minutes - an hour drive would be appreciated. I work full-time, so the closer to Salisbury the better, but I'll do what I need to do.

Thanks!

Tara, Coach and Cougar

None with My dogs but We did an adoption last week and that hound had had a corn problem bad enough that they removed the toe. It didn't seem to bother him one bit. I also saw a grey at our playgroup last week that had a toe removed for the same reason and she was streaking all over the field. Mild cases of corns, the vet will usually cut or grind the corn down which will last for a short period of time but will come back.
If You live in the salisbury area come down to our playgroup for greyhounds tomorrow if You can from 1:00 to 3:00pm. Directions can be found on this forum under the Charlotte link.

Tomorrow is probably out as we will start putting down wood laminate flooring in our son's bedroom this afternoon. Do you meet every week? Coach and Cougar don't "play" too much anymore but they would probably enjoy the change in scenary and sniffing a few new behinds. Laughing

Poplar Animal Hospital in Concord sees the foster greyhounds for us. Both doctors are very good. You can get more greyhound recommended vets under the Charlotte section.

Our Miles had corns, from everything I read there is not a cure just treatment. I would file his down so they did not stick up. I used a pumice stone. We also did the Dr Scholls(sp) Wart freezing stuff on him. Some vets will cull the corn out but it does grow back again. With Miles if he was going to be out and about on concrete he wore his Therapy Paws to make him more comfortable.

Yes, every sunday from 1:00 to 3:00pm. In may the time will be moved back to 10:00 to 12:00 because of warmer weather.

I took my new one - Trudi - to Poplar Animal Hospital in Concord and they were great. Being a new owner I'm a bit overprotective. They worked me in within the hour of calling, when my grey had some toe pain issues. We met Dr. Amat and he was super helpful, he found the problem right away and was very familiar with greys. Office phone 704-795-7200. Highly recommend them.

Another vote here for Poplar. They see both of our greys when needed.
