In the spring issue of Celebrating Greyhounds magazine that's my baby girl on page 41 !
You can't see very much of her because she's wearing a greyhound bus costume.
Although the article is credited to me, it was actually finely crafted by the CG editors.
Between Thanksgiving and Christmas Gracie and I made several trips to the Base bus station - in costume - giving out cookies to the troops.
I have a few posters that I will be bringing up in May that were donated by the bus station manager.
If ya'll think that the bus costume would be a hot item for the silent auction I just may donate that as well.
Gracie is nearly 7 and is a GFNC girlie. Originally Dusty Lady, we've had her for 5 years. |

Handing out cookies to the troops with a Greyhound---- what a magnificent idea !!! I spent 34 yrs. in service to My country, if You'd handed Me a cookie You'd have melted My heart and I'd have been it tears like I am now. It's not hard to tell that I'm all about God and Country. God bless You for that deed.

I really wish I'd had a picture of those young Marines' faces when we walked in the door. Like a greyhound going 0-45pmh, those fellas went from zombie bored to what the heck! in seconds.
Even the cab drivers that wait at the station were in stitches. That's another bunch of lonely folks who got a belly laugh those days.
We made a couple of visits at Thanksgiving wearing the bus suit. When we went back at Christmas each time we talked up to the station (me in a Santa hat and Gracie wearing antlers) I hollered out:
Boys, it ain't Christmas until you see a reindeer! Well here's your sign!"
What a hoot that was.
Sometimes the station manager's grandson ( was there so I brought a 2-handloop leash so we could walk her together.
Many many years ago as a single gal I never would have had the nerve to walk up to a large group of single men and say hello. So behold the power of greyhounds folks - giving a middle-aged woman the courage to ask young men if she could give them a cookie. |

Thanks Claire. My husband is a retired Marine who served in the first Gulf War. My stepson is in the Navy and went to the Gulf twice.
If your son gets stationed here and needs a greyhound fix, we'll be sure to visit him.
Alice of the Coastal Greys group in Wilmington recently made Gracie a beautiful red collar with yellow USMC embroidered on it for our next visit to the troops. |

WOW Gracie, I now know a doggie celebrity. Bless you for taking cookies to the troops. I saw the photo of the greyhound bus costume on line and thought was such a cool idea, little did I know that it was one our dogs. _________________ Amy
