Hi everyone,
I'm new to Charlotte and the forum, and hoping to get some advice from some seasoned greyhound owners. My greyhound, Trooper, has very bad corns on at least one toe of every foot. Sad The poor thing, walking is so uncomfortable for him unless it's on grass or carpet. Does anyone have any experience with Therapaws boots? As far as I can tell, there's no cure for corns. I used to have a vet who would 'carve' them out with a scalpel, but even that only lasted for about a week before they grew again. Currently, I shave them down with a battery-operated nail buffer to keep them even with the rest of the pad so they don't protrude and add more pressure. If you've got any other ideas or 'cures' I'd love to hear about them! It's so frustrating...not even the vets know about this problem (even a vet listed on this site as being good with greyhounds had never heard of them or seen them before I showed her Trooper's feet). Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Poor Trooper! Sad

I know a few other greys with this problem and I have heard that the boots are the best thing and make them much happier and more comfortable.
I have seen the short ones for sale at the usual dog supply stores but found some boots specifically made for greyhound legs on ebay. They are tall and go half way up their leg. I was going to order some for our Julius as he has SLO and it makes his feet and toenails sore. They are made by a lady with greys out in Western Canada.
Good luck and welcome.

Someone just posted about this on Greytalk today. Go to the post entitled "Treating Corns-a Multidimensional Approach" and check out what has worked for her grey. Good luck!

We have the TheraPaws if you would like to try them before buying. We used them on Miles, he had corns on both feet. We tried all types of remedies for them and nothing worked very well. The best was filing them down and using the boots.

Let me know if you want to try the boots. They are padded on the bottom so they get comfort. Some of the ones I have seen in stores have rubber soles but the padding wasn't very good.

Lynda, I would be so grateful to try out your Therapaws on Trooper. I'll email you separately. Thank you!

Hounded2, thank you for the referral to Greytalk, which I didn't know about. There is a lot of good information there. Hopefully I'll find something to help Trooper's poor feet.

Greytalk's been around a long time and with the sheer number of members, there's a vast amount of info archived there. I always do a search when I have questions, especially for health issues. Although I've yet to have any greyhounds with corns, I do know they are very hard to treat. That particular post sounded very hopeful. Let us know how Trooper's doing! Smile
