We arent really sure how it was caused, but we do know it happened very fast and could have been caused by the wooden handrail in the villa at SP.

He ran down the stairs and screamed and ran into my arms and his first mama's.

I almost lost it, thankfully, I was surrounded by friends, 3 of which were nurses and one used to be a vet tech.

We found the Evet and 30+ stitches later here he was. There was a muscle tear he repaired also. The stitches end at the bottom the red patch the rest is drainage.

This happened Saturday night at SP and you would be amazed how good it looks today. The main bruising is almost gone, the swelling has gone way down too.

The Evet was wonderful and even let us come back to watch the last couple of stitches and wait while B started to wake up.

He has 14 days of antibiotics and had pain pills until we got home. I just cant say enough nice things about the vet.

Man, that looks painful! Can he walk?
I was thinking about you and wondering how he is doing. Glad to hear he is ok, all things considered!

Glad the vet knew what he was doing.
From now on I will keep a copy of greyhound's special anesthesia and blood level information in my van, in case I have to rush to a non-greyhound e-vet some day!

He is walking, and doing most of his normal stuff. You can tell he is hesitant to jump (which I stop anyway) down from the beds or the car.

He is such a strong sweet boy. We went by the vet this morning to drop off his brother and sister for dentals and the Vet said it looked great but did a CBC because of the large area of bruising he still had. Everything was normal.

And I got the call that Deniro and Jilli were waking up and doing good too.

Oh Leah - poor Bernard and what a fright for you... I hope he heals quickly -

Back in the fall, Racer had stitches and a drain from an "incident" - He ended up having 2 surgeries b/c the first drain was in a "U" shape (an upside down U) and it didn't heal properly. In the second surgery, the drain was placed so it poked out at the top of the wound and poked out at the bottom of the wound - this worked much better and the wound finally started to heal. Their skin is so fragile - it's almost like that onion-skin paper we used to have to type on (back before computers - back in the stone-age...LOL)

Healing drool coming your way, Bernard!

Well, we have had a small setback.

There seem to be 2 pulled stitches right in the middle. Back to the vet this afternoon for a recheck to see what they want to do.

Deniro is doing great, Jilli is a little worse for wear. 7 more teeth gone Crying or Very sad She was real wobbley last night and oozing blood, but this morning seemed MUCH better. I can safely say her appetite has been voracious, so she isnt feeling too bad.

Well, we can add 10 staples to the mix now. d'oh!

Hopefully these will stay in place. The 2 missing stitches were several more by the time I got home to take him to the vet yesterday. He is crated, t-shirted and muzzled too.

Silly boy just has to lay on the booboo side, but I think the staples remind him not to now.

He goes back on the 23rd for suture removal and dental. Fingers crossed that everything is healing or healed by then. The vet said they may leave the staples in longer if needed.

Injuries, dentals ... Hope this is the end of canine medical issues for a while, Leah!

It will be once Bernie gets his stitches/staples removed and his dental done. Shocked
