Blanche -
You are absolutely right - making the decision to amputate is very personal and everybody has to do what is right for them, with the information they have at the time. Despite everything we went through with Olive, I still think we did the right thing. We weren't ready to let her go and I don't think she was ready to give up. And, pain doesn't kill anybody - it's the complications and the spread of the cancer. I don't believe there's ever an excuse for a dog to be in pain except for poor vet care!!
And I love what you said about Caser Milan - I was often comforted by the fact that dogs live in the moment and don't fear the future (including death) the way humans do - they're much more evolved in that respect!
How is Sherry doing?

Blanche!
Oh my gosh - I haven't been on WMH in weeks and I am so sorry to hear about Sherry - but glad to hear that she has sailed through the surgery and is doing well. Please give her a hug from us - our thoughts and prayers are with you - _________________ Jean Bell

Thanks Jean and Holly for your thoughts. Sherry and I are doing well.
She gets her staples out Thursday. I didn't give her any Deramaxx today and she doesn't seem to be in any pain. She is getting up and down on the futon and has come down the 6 kitchen stairs to the den-I sure held my breath when I saw her heading toward them-I hadn't taken the plastic runner off them and was afraid she would slip-but she didn't.
She goes out in the yard and once in a while will run across it with Sport. I feel sort of like a new mom watching the kids take their first bicycle ride without the training wheels.
Thanks again everyone for your prayers and well wishes. I'll give you occasional updates. _________________ Blanche E Fedor

i'm glad you are both doing well...it sounds like she is adjusting okay. i know what you mean about watching and holding your breath! i think it's harder for us to watch than it is for the dog or child who's taking those new "steps" so to speak. keep us posted! _________________ holly

On June 19 Sherry was helped to the Bridge. Her tumor at her amp site had grown to about 8 in in diameter. Dr. Crawford said it was just days away from rupturing and it was getting more painful. Sherry is terribly missed by both me and Sport. _________________ Blanche E Fedor

I am sorry for your loss Blanche. It's amazing how greys get inside your heart with all the love and kindness...even after being treated so poorly on the race track.
I know you are hurting and I am sure your baby is not in pain any more. _________________ Tara Sue was here
