We are picking up Jacey on the 18th! We had to wait until we could get time off from work. I'm taking Mon & Tues off, then Rick is taking a couple of days....and he gets off early on Friday. JB and Butterscotch are on the bed....boy, are they in for a shock! I keep showering them with attention. That will never stop of course! They'll just have to share, right? We're so excited! Rick is making a dish riser....i'm sure it will be beautiful! I can't wait to walk the dog..zzzzzzzz!!!! How come the "girl" muzzles don't come in red??? I think Jacey would rock out a red muzzle!
I have sighted a brindle (male?) twice now on the Plaza. Once on my way to work and second on my way home. Who are you and do you want to play?

I'll check in the botique to see if we have any red muzzles in there. _________________ Blanche E Fedor

I can't wait to meet Jacey. And I had to laugh at the red muzzle. Now that you have a "girl" greyhound the muzzle is just a small part of the accessory line. Wait until you start looking at collars, coats, necklaces, raincoats, leashes and hats and collars and collars and did I say collars.
The girls are so easy to dress up and show off. (Well except for my Jasmine, she is just a tomboy.)
There are a couple of places posted under the Greyt Merchandise section of this forum that people have had good experience dealing with.
Good luck with Jacey. Keep us posted on how she is and remember, pictures lots of pictures. _________________

Congratulations! I've been watching Jacey for a while now. There was just something about her that spoke to me so I looked her up on greyhound-data.com and saw that she was born on my birthday! I wonder if that's why I felt the bond?
I can identify with the feelings of guilt you had about choosing her over the others. I agonized over taking Carly over some other dogs who had been at the kennel longer. I had it in my mind that I would take one who had been there a long time, but ended up choosing Carly. She is super shy/skittish but extremely sweet and fit in well with my dominant male, Keno. More importantly, I believe my household is also a good fit for her with her fearfulness and sleep space aggression issues. She would probably have bombed out quickly in a home with children or a high activity household and would have ended up being returned. So despite my worry and guilt, it all worked out great.
Anyway, I'm very excited for you and for Jacey and hope I get to meet you all soon!
Oh, my girl, Princess is the same color as Jacey and she looks fabulous in red. She wore a red collar to Saturday's Meet and Greet at Matthews Petsmart and got lots of complements. Congratulations to you and Jacey!! I am also a first time greyhound owner (for 5 years now) and would never have another breed! It just seems that the love and devotion you receive from a greyhound is like no other....it seems they are truly greytful for their forever home!! I also have 3 cats and would have another greyhound in a heartbeat....but...3 cats plus 2 hounds....my husband says we need to let our senior kitties live out the rest of their lives in peace....but never say never. Luckily, Bullet is very independent and does not seem to need the companionship of another dog. If he did, I'm sure there would be no questions as to having another!!
I think most feel the guilt about choosing one dog over another. In a way, I'm glad that we had to choose a dog that was cat safe b/c it made things A LITTLE easier--but my husband really fell in love with a dog named Rachel who had been there awhile and was older---but they told us at the kennel that she was DEFINITELY NOT CAT SAFE so we couldn't even consider her. Bullet just seemed to pick us and just had a way about him that we knew he was the one for us!
Best of luck to you and Jacey and hope to meet you both soon! She's so pretty! _________________ Bonnie (wife to Mike)

I looked at Jacey this morning and it said that she was adopted, and not by me! I totally freaked of course, but Blanche assured me that it was just a little mix up and that Jacey is still there waiting for me. Whew!

Hello, again! We are picking up Jacey in the morning and bringing her home. Rick told me that as he was leaving work today he mentioned to his boss that he was worried about bringing her home. Why? He's worried that she won't like us! Isn't he sweet!?! We are both so excited and anxious! I will post lots of pics, if I can figure it out! Wish us luck! Oh, and thanks to everyone for all of your words of wisdom and encouragement. I feel as if I am on the brink of a wondrous adventure......I'm already singing to myself..."fallin' in love again...". One more thing, Jacey and my dear brother share the same birthday, December 26! |

I don't think in 7 years I have ever heard of a greyhound not liking their owners-I think that would only happen if they were mistreated. All a greyhound wants is someone to pet them, love them, and-best of all-feed them and they usually give you their constant love and attention.
Sometime you wish they would just lay down when you get up instead of following you everywhere you go.
Not to worry, you both sound like you have a load of love to give and she can't help but love you. Don't be afraid of her not liking you. Relax and enjoy her. _________________ Blanche E Fedor

Jacey is doing wonderful! She looks so cute in her red muzzle and skull & crossbone collar!!
On the way home it took her a while to lay down. Rick had his seat laid back a little so he could reach her to help keep her from falling when we had to stop or turn a curve. She was wobbly! When we got home, Rick took her up the street a little and I went to get Jack Benny. That went well. The kitty is still unsure. JB is a little jealous though.
She slept all of Saturday night in her crate in the bedroom without any problems. Sunday night was a totally different story! I did manage to get her on the bed, but there wasn't any room for me! We have to keep the bathroom doors closed and the lids down....Rick keeps forgetting!
So here's a funny story...but it worries me too! I made some chicken and dumplings and had the pot on the stove to cool down so I could put some in a container for Rick's lunch. I couldn't get the lid on it so I took it to Rick.....I got a little sidetracked with something on t.v. and I kept hearing this funny noise coming from the kitchen. Jacey was going back and forth at this point so I thought, "what on earth is she doing in there?", well, guess who forgot to put the lid back on the pot! The noise I was hearing was the ladle scrapping on the sides of the pot as somebody was helping herself to a treat!! Thank goodness the stove was cold! She had dumplings on her chin and tale tell chicken breath.
Gosh, I think I should have started a new post....anyway, she is settling in fine and I will have to figure out the picture thing. She is so sweet and pretty, we just love to sit on the couch and rub on her. Sunday night Rick did find and remove to nasty ticks. Should I be worried?
How long will it take until she can get on the couch by herself?
How is it that she can walk backwards so well?

Didn't anyone tell you greyhounds are counter surfers-that includes the stove. You have to be careful and turn the handles on the stove when cooking so they don't knock the pan over and burn themselves=specially since she now knows good stuff comes from the stove.
I read somewhere that greyhounds are one of few dogs that can walk backwards so well.
It shouldn't take her long to figure out how to get up on the couch-very few will not get up on the couch-I think it was a couple of months before Dash got on the couch, but now he won't stay off.
You will find yourself sometimes feet hanging off the bed because the dog is in the middle. You sort of have to get yourself settled in first-before the dog.
Pleases give Jacey lots of crate time so she doesn't feel like you are never coming back once you have to go back to work. Lots of in and out time. Like we say, not crating can sometime be the worse thing you can do. Make it something she likes-give her a treat in there once in a while-leave the door open so she can go in herself. It's also the best way to housebreak her-every time she comes out of the crate. We had a dog returned last week-one of the reasons she was returned was not housebroken after 5 months. He only crated her 2 or 3 days and she never got the hang of it. Sorry men, but sometimes men aren't as aware of a dog having to go out as women are and don't always pick up the signs they give you of having to go out-at least this guy wasn't.
Glad everything else is going well. Keep the counters free of goodies-once they find them-they don't forget. They have the brain of an elephant-well, not always for the things they 'should' remember. _________________ Blanche E Fedor
