Ok. i have another question about Trooper. When i adopted him he looked like he had a couple of spots on his back that were healing from some kind of injury. I've been watching them and now for a month and now the hair has fallen out around the spots. He now has two bald spots on his back. My first question is will the hair grow back? The second is should i put anything on the bare skin to help protect it/ help it heal?

I'd check in with the vet on this one, especially if the spots seem bigger. Could be a parasite...
Good luck,
Jean

Could it be ringworms? It's actually not worms but bacteria that create round bald red spots. It's contageous to people and animals with low immune systems.
My greyhound puppy had it when he was little, the vet did a culture (takes 2 weeks) and immediately started him on ointment and special shampoo. Got better after several days and nobody else got sick.
I would check with a vet.
Keep us updated!

Thanks for the info. I took Trooper to the vet last night and they are checking for ringworms. I'll know in 7-10 days.

Did they give you ointment or shampoo in the meanwhile?
You have to wash your hands a lot and wash bedding with beach and vacuum a lot to get rid of those bacteria or whatever those nasties are.

I'm wondering, isn't it possible to check for ringworms by holding a black light to the affected area? I remember the animal shelter employees doing that when the Orange County dogs came in. Anybody know?

You can try the black light and they may glow greenish if round worm. But from what I read only about 50% of them will glow greenish. So best to skip the black light and get the skin test. Black light is good to find pee pee spots on the carpet though.
